SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Physicists at Washington University in St.
Louis have found that introducing disorder into certain messy situations
may actually spawn order. It happened as they worked with a network of
interconnected pendulums that were all waving around chaotically. When
they brought random forces to bear on the tumult, the pendulums locked
into sync. The physicists' results may not necessarily imply a universal law
you should invoke in every circumstance, but it does happen to be
applicable to you right now. The more unpredictable, effervescent, and
even unruly you are--especially in the face of confusing circumstances--
the better chance you will have of generating elegant success, and maybe
even some beauty, truth, and love as well.

The hospital staff have told Elaine that Dad might be able to go home today. They did the cath yesterday afternoon (which is how they find what caused the heart attack), and one of the old stents they'd put in before had clogged up so they took that one out and put a new one in. He'd been moved to where I could phone him, but Elaine told me he was still all groggy around 5:30pm. I gave him a call around 9:30pm, and while he still sounded a little groggy, he was flirting with the nurses and speculating on the possibility of selling his morphine at the school where he teaches (causing the nurses to giggle in the background) so it sounds to me like he's in high spirits and will be okay. As someone said, he eats nastier heart attacks for breakfast. Booya!

I really appreciate the good thoughts you all sent, and I'm very relieved. I'm also amazed at how much of a 'no big deal' heart attacks seem to have become compared to when I was a kid. Thank you science!

Wheel
John Mayer

People have the right to fly
And wail when it gets compromised
Their hearts say "Move along"
Their minds say "Gotcha heart,
Let's move it along"

In airports, you see it all the time
Where someone's last goodbye
Blends in with someone's sigh
'Cause someone's coming home
In hand a single rose

That's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now
And I won't be the last
No, I won't be the last
To love her

You can't build a house of leaves
And live like it's an evergreen
It's just a season thing
It's just this thing the seasons do

And that's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now
And you won't be the first
No you won't be the first
To love me

You can find me
If you ever want to give
I'll be around the bend
I'll be around the bend
I'll be around, I'll be around
And if you never stop when you wave goodbye
You just might find if you give it time
You will wave hello again
You just might wave hello again

And that's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now

You can't love too much one part of it
You can't love too much one part of it
You can't love too much one part of it
You can't love too much one part of it

I believe that my life's gonna see
The love I give return to me
I believe that my life's gonna see yeah
The love I give return to me.
I believe that my life's gonna see the love I give
Return to me...

So, we're all moved into the new building and have our fancy new phones. I got one of the first trainings, so it was awhile ago, and it was very early in the morning, and I don't really remember any of it. We have these fairly cryptic cheat sheets, and I'm trying to decide if they are useful or not. I think I've only accidentally hung up on 2 people today!

I didn't get a fancy window near my cubicle like some people I know, but I did get one that backs up to a wall that has a door that leads to a room that has become the ghostly realm of forgotten chairs, sort of like the isle of misfit toys but with less singing. And no cool lion ruler.

I've decorated as much as I think I will this go-around. I still haven't brought in my big mirror, which I don't need anymore and am not sure where I'd put if I did have it. I also left my pothos ivy at home where the cats are slowly eating away at it. I was going to put it on top of my bookshelfy thing, but we just got an email asking not to do that because it obscures the supervisor's ability to see if anyone has put up the red cup of cluelessness that we are supposed to raise to signal a supervisor if we make the phones asplode or something. I am ready to defy this, because a) I am in a corner of the room where chances are vanishingly small that anyone would be trying to see the rest of the room from here, and b) I was not given a red cup of cluelessness, doubtless because it is obvious to all that I know everything.
