The hospital staff have told Elaine that Dad might be able to go home today. They did the cath yesterday afternoon (which is how they find what caused the heart attack), and one of the old stents they'd put in before had clogged up so they took that one out and put a new one in. He'd been moved to where I could phone him, but Elaine told me he was still all groggy around 5:30pm. I gave him a call around 9:30pm, and while he still sounded a little groggy, he was flirting with the nurses and speculating on the possibility of selling his morphine at the school where he teaches (causing the nurses to giggle in the background) so it sounds to me like he's in high spirits and will be okay. As someone said, he eats nastier heart attacks for breakfast. Booya!
I really appreciate the good thoughts you all sent, and I'm very relieved. I'm also amazed at how much of a 'no big deal' heart attacks seem to have become compared to when I was a kid. Thank you science!
