austin_tycho: crater (Safe!)
Tim and Sue and Kate and Abby are here from Houston.

I've known Tim for like 7 years from a childfree chat board. He and wife Sue and their 2 cats were living in San Francisco for many years, then moved to Houston a year or two ago. We've met for the occasional dinner whenever we're in each others' town. When Rita started looking scary I offered a place, and he said there was no need because they were going to go stay with their neighbors in said neighbors' second home far inland. But the neighbors decided to ride it out (morons) and Tim left a panicked message last night around 10 asking if they could come stay.

We made sure the bathroom and former cat room were clean and liveable; they may have to stay for a week or more. They left at midnight and got here a little after 5. I went to sleep around midnight and woke up at 3, and have been up since then. They've gotten settled in, and are catching some Zs. I'm going to try to do the same. I have to work from 8am to 6:30pm- and I don't know if I'm gonna make it. *walks into a wall*

Ya, I'm a big puss, I didn't go to work. In addition to the lack of sleep, I twisted my tailbone something terrible and it hurts like hell. My chiropractor could fix it in a minute, but she doesn't work on Thursdays. Neither do a lot of them, it seems, but I finally found one who's nearby who will see me for not a lot of cash. I don't even know how I did it; cleaning, hauling stuff, I dunno.

It's clear and oppressively hot today. Rita seems to be veering east, and the weatherman is saying it's possible we might not even get any rain. Not likely, but possible. I will probably go ahead and have ritual, but the prospect of cleaning the place and booting my guests out just doesn't appeal to me; maybe I will see if I can talk one of the other folks into letting us have it at their place.

Time to try another nap.

Okay, considering where I work and where I live, this is just too funny.

Word of the day, from some friend of [livejournal.com profile] alainn_sorcha's: disasterbating

Quote of the day, from [livejournal.com profile] contentlove: If your ethical code and moral precepts serve as nothing more than a vehicle of frustration and anxiety when other people don't play along, you are missing the boat.

More shit I didn't write that's cool of the day, from Daily OM:
