I am so fucking sick of this. I worked 7 extra hours in June. I worked 4 extra hours in July. There are many downsides for working for the government, but until now being paid on time has not been one of them. I actually budgeted for those hours, and will be really unhappy if I don't get paid for them soon. I have been emailing back and forth with time keepers, time collectors, payroll and some other job title, as well as my supervisor, and no one can tell me when I will get my goddamn money. I don't think what I'm asking for is all that unreasonable, and as I've said I have had no complaints before now- and I've worked for the state since 1993.

I'm gonna have to go here and find some swear words in Finnish soon.

Okay, I will just go ahead and own the fact that I woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning. I am Miss Ranty McCrabbypants, as you kids would say, and I think I can indulge in the occasional bout of un-mellowness. I think I'm allowed, I'm about a 15% red head. *gnash*

I am trying to invert my typical eating pattern. My work schedule has me eating lunch around 2, after having a break around 11 or noon. I'm gonna try to start eating my lunch at my first break instead. This will help me on my days off, where I typically try to get all my chores out of the way before I eat- meaning sometimes I don't eat anything until 2. And feel like hell by then, most often. No more of that.
When will it cool off, already! Everyone else is having seasons, and here we are locked in the endless summer. It's getting dark at 7, yet it's going to be 100 freaking degrees today. Stop being hot! Damn! I want to get in the hot tub and not feel like it's a freaking lobster boil! I don't even like lobsters! This weather is fired!!!

My iPod smarted off to me. As I was whinging about my money, it played "Children of England", about the kids who worked to death in coal mines and got sent to get their legs shot off in WW1 and so on. Yeah, I get it, I could have it worse. Still want mah money.

Texas always has to horn in on the action. So now we get a dumb cat. 5 hurricane. *pfft*. I am thinking that while it will definitely be a blustery day at the House of Mellow, that's all it will be. It would sure be ironic if a tree fell on our newly-installed and very expensive windows, but we're about 200 miles inland and by the time Rita makes it here, my prediction is that it'll just be an assload of rain and a few branches down, which happens several times a year here anyway. So all you Austin folks, do not soil your undies, it will be okay.

All the same, people are freaking out. I have Mabon ritual scheduled for Saturday night, and I have a feeling it's going to be very sparsely attended. I'm almost wondering if I should cancel it. It's planned for indoors, but if people are all tweaky about driving (and some folks are coming from the other end of town) then it might be a kindness to just tell everyone to take a load off and think happy thoughts or whatever.

Even if Rita becomes a category 17 there's nothing we can do about it, and pooping yourself with panic will not help matters.

So think calming thoughts. If you buy into The Power of Prayer™ suggest to the deity of your choice that things settle down in the Gulf. Or just stop thinking in the scary panicked alarmist terms the media's justifying it's existence with.

Maybe I'm being cheeky and full of denial among other things, but I really think Austin's going to be fine. The gulf towns might not, but freaking out will not fix anything.
