austin_tycho: crater (Calming massage)
Okay, time to take a chill pill.

Even if Rita becomes a category 17 there's nothing we can do about it, and pooping yourself with panic will not help matters.

So think calming thoughts. If you buy into The Power of Prayer™ suggest to the deity of your choice that things settle down in the Gulf. Or just stop thinking in the scary panicked alarmist terms the media's justifying it's existence with.

Maybe I'm being cheeky and full of denial among other things, but I really think Austin's going to be fine. The gulf towns might not, but freaking out will not fix anything.

Think it with me...
"refreshing shower"
"unremarkable drizzle"
"brisk wind"

Go ahead, try a few.

So...lighten up, in other words? :o)

If any of that post was for me, I'm fine. I also know that Austin will be fine, and I think the worst that will happen is we'll be without power for a while. Maybe a few days if EVERYTHING goes wrong.

Looks like it's turning north anyway.

Aiiiieeeee! No, you are the soul of calm compared to a lot I've seen. We've bought some Vienna sausages and foil SPAM packets. And Pop Tarts. And bottles of mint tea. We're ready to par-tay!!!

scorpians
every poisonous species of snake in North America
sticker burrs
catcus
mesquete bushes

Does it really take two Cat5 hurricanes in a row to get people think maybe the gods want people the hell out of Texas? :>

Oh, p'shaw. The first one didn't hit us.

Alternate snappy comeback: You are just jealous because we get all our rain at once.

"...but interior Texas, including the Dallas/Fort Worth area, might see a deluge of 15 - 30 inches of rain. A huge portion of Texas would be a disaster area. We'll have to wait for the next set of model runs due out by tomorrow morning to know better."

You're right. Maybe we should live somewhere safe and beautiful where all you need to worry about is earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. : )

Well, they are little earthquakes. And little tsunamis. And only 1 of the 4 volcanoes is close enough to put lava near Seattle proper :>
