"This is something that's been on my mind a lot this last week. If Hurricane Mairi (a category 5!) was heading towards Austin and would make landfall by Friday, would you evacuate? If you wouldn't, what are you reasons for not evacuating? How would you secure, or try to secure, your house?

Hub and I had a vacation planned for this past weekend from several months back. So off we went to the Woodlands, a nice piney suburb of Houston, to see the Dave Matthews Band. We made no specific plans, other than to show up before the concert, check into the room we'd reserved at a nearby Marriott, and visit the local Ikea the next day and pick up some house things, and be back home before we had to be at work today. We woke up yesterday and packed up our room. We left and headed into Houston proper after a nice stay and made our way to the mega-jumbo-huge Ikea after the traditional Houston visit Waffle House breakfast.( Read more... )
