Well, screw that. It was one of those really nice days that Texas gets in the fall, and I just plain didn't feel like going in. So I didn't.

Ritual went well; there were many comedic mishaps associated with having it in a suburban back yard, but it still went off well, and I enjoyed seeing everyone. Visiting couple David and Renee were there, and David said he enjoyed working with us so much he'd like to do it again. I mistook that for a request to join, and told him when classes were starting- he gently reminded me that he was already 3rd Degree, and just wondered if he could get more invites to Sabbats. Oops! We did a slight variation on the theme of the Mabon ritual feast and had the Salad of the Gods!!! (you must say it with the exclamation points) which turned out to be really tasty. Yummy salad, oh it was really good!

I did some work on classes and incorporating stuff LG told me into my lecture notes. I also got some fish for the 55g. On [livejournal.com profile] scorpionis's recommendation, I got some black mollies. My dad was amused when I told him this, apparently it's a street name for some kind of speed- he said 'All right! Black mollies got me through grad school!' Good lord. Anyway, they are very pretty and active and one of them might be pregnant. The fish nerd at the store said they will breed like rabbits, but I figure I'll just let them fend for themselves and see how that goes. Against her recommendation I also got a betta, because I really like 'em and the fish nerd at the store said it should be fine. But he's been hiding out in a corner, and the java fern is short enough that there's not really any good hiding place for him if he felt too agoraphobic. I need to get some more substantial terrain features in there, but if it's too big for him I my need to just get him a betta bowl or something.

The mollies are gorgeous. They looked jet black in the store, but when I got them in the tank and got a good close look at them, they seemed to have little flashes of silver and blue as well. They look like living, swimming bits of Labradorite. I like them quite a lot so far! We talked about a background for the tank; the 10g has a blue and green silk scarf behind it which makes a great background. The ones in the store are either black, bright turquoise, or very busy plant life scenes. I thought about a black towel, but hub mentioned that we'd never see the fish again. Then I remembered that I had a bunch of fabric that had greens and blues in a random pattern with a little bit of purple and pink, and it looks really good back there. I was never sure what to do with the fabric but I loved the colors so I got it, about 5-6 years ago. I suppose this is why! It's bright, but random enough that it doesn't make your eyes bleed.
