Sep. 21st, 2002 04:44 pmUgh; I feel like I've had the crap beaten out of me and I have a ritual to run tonight.
I slept on my neck wrong and it's been getting more painful as the day has progressed. In addition, I lugged groceries, bags of gravel, buckets of water and a futon yesterday and today which may be part of the problem (ya think?).
scorpionis popped by to trade back telescopes, because the big one was too unwieldy for her (I can't really blame her)- but gave me her little one to make up for it. Nice! She also sold me an aquarium heater, which was the last thing I was waiting for to set up.
After a bunch of cursing and false starts and more cursing, I finally got the thing rolling with much help from hub. The gravel is mostly black with some malachite-looking dark green in it for variety. I planted a big clod of java fern from the 10-gal, and plopped a pretty glass paperweight in it. Now all it needs is some fish.
I was at Hypercompuglobalmegapet and spied many neat-looking fishies, but there were more than a few floaters and they say that's something you definitely want to avoid, so I will need to go elsewhere. My favorite shop, Gallery of Pets, seems to be running low on cool fish and high on goldfish (boring) so I may have to run to Aquatek or Amazonia or Rivers and Reefs down south. I had been saving a gooped-up filter in the 10-gallon to just float in the 55 so it should start growing the happy bacteria soon.
The temperature seems high, plus it's really cloudy so I'll probably wait a few days. I don't know why it's so hot, I filled it with (treated) water right out of the tap at the coldest setting.
Tonight, as much as I'm looking forward to it, is going to kick my ass. I had requested tomorrow off thinking I was going to be camping, but since we didn't end up going, I had planned to save my leave and go in anyway. I may go ahead and stay home, though, depending on how I feel.
Another factor is financial. For reasons I don't want to go into a lot of detail about, we're so very broke, and the immediate future looks rather bleak. The short version is that hub's client is fucking him by exploiting a loophole in the contract. Neither of us knows how to read contracts very well, so we walked into it, kinda. It puts a serious ding in one's faith in the inherent goodness of humanity. >:[ So I may need to pick up extra shifts after all.
