Consarnit! For more concrete flooring bitching, see inside.
Since we originally had carpet in there, when we pulled it up there were big holes in the concrete where they had pounded in the carpet tack strip. The theory behind getting a stained concrete overlay (which we are paying over $3000 for) is that they would put a thin layer of concrete over the slab, filling in all the holes. Well, there's a thin layer, but it tightly conforms to the slab, holes and all.
We were wondering what the progress was (you may recall we were told this would all be done by Thursday) so we called (he never bothers to call us) and the guy told us they had stained it all, but were gonna put a couple more coats in the living room since the color not coming out as well as he had hoped. But the kitchen was done, we could see it! So we went to look.
The kitchen is indeed done, except for the sealant. It looks nice; the color is somewhere between Sunflower Yellow and Rustic on the chart below. Yay, and stuff.
Now the living room is another story. The guy has been saying 'we'll fill the holes' but you'd think if they had already put down the stain, that indicates that they are done with the floor work, right? Well, as you may have already guessed, the holes are still there. Hub has been saying he could have done a better job by himself at this point, and doubtlessly for much cheaper. And the color is wrong. It's not just that it's too thin, which when doing a stain is something that you chance, but it looks like the wrong shade. On ye olde chart, we'd picked Serbra. The color as it looks now appears to be something between Peru and Purple Rock. There's not a hint of green.

We've called the guy, and his response: it will look fine when we're finished, don't worry about it.
Well, pardon me for being somewhat skeptical. *grumble* He's saying at this point that he'll definitely be done by Monday. I'm just glad we're not paying for a motel room somewhere. Hub's getting his balls inflated in preparation for chewing this guy out and getting out of paying full price. How disappointing this is.
