I put some general interest pictures in this album. Enjoy!
Yesterday was sort of a bummer. Hub seems depressed for some reason, and when we're both home it's easy for him to dump on me. Bleh. He got a little job so was able to take off for a couple of hours, and I went with River to a meeting of the Austin Area Interreligious Ministries.
In our embryonic local council CoG meetings, everyone expressed interest in doing interfaith work, so we went to check it out. I was a little wary ("we have both kinds of religion, Catholic and Protestant!") but it turned out to be really interesting! They had an open panel between a pastor and an Islamic imam. Well, not 'between' as in they were pitted against each other, but they both got to speak. Some lady asked the imam about women and Islam, and he went on a tear about how the way women are treated in the middle east being a cultural thing that has a lot more to do with the Bedouins than with Islam, which he explained was actually good to women. And the pastor went on a tear about the Pledge, which I was dreading. But instead of going where I expected (taking god out of America is what's wrong with everything) he said that politicians that give tax breaks to the upper 4% have no business claiming that they stand for Christianity in any way, so poo on them. All right!
Some book store had a display of various (mostly Christian, but not completely) books for 20% off, so I picked up a copy of the Koran. Now hub is worried that since I charged it on my card, the FBI will take note and start keeping a close eye on me. Blar, I hope he's wrong.
Autumnfest, the gathering for all the Unicorns, is scheduled. I need to get to Atlanta in September. If anyone has ideas where I can get cheap airline tickets, I'm entertaining all options!
