Why is it OK to go where you know there are vegetarians and refer to yourself as an 'unrepentant carnivore'? Casting a religious spin on it is offensive to those who just choose to eat that way for health reasons or whatever; and even if someone is a 'religious veggie' it's still rude. I don't refer to myself as an 'unrepentant pagan' in the company of Christians; it's just unnecessarily confrontational. People can be such jerks.

I'm not vegetarian, by the way, but I really don't understand the rage some people seem to have against them. The biggest claim is 'they try to make me feel bad!' Well, so do Catholics (for instance) but you don't see Wiccans flaunting their non-Catholic status in front of them just to be assholes. If any student of mine did that I would kick his or her butt.

I'm in a cranky mood today. Bleh.

I am not sure why a vegetarian diet makes so many people confrontational. I know that the actions of extremist vegetarians like PETA do not help, but it seems like that alone is insufficient to account for the degree of hostility. And there are certainly vegetarian restaurants where it is a religious issue, like Veggie Heaven for example (though of course they already get hostile treatment because they belong to a 'cult'). My experience has been that the pushy vegetarians are the exception, rather than the rule. However, the problem is that of course by being pushy they are louder than the rest of us.
