The annual pre-Yule Relaxathon last night that I always hold for my grovemates was lightly attended. My hope is that people were doing their relaxing at home, which is exactly the point. If it takes going to an event to get you to slow down, come on over; if not, chill at home. This part of the year is supposed to be about turning inward, but our culture gets so crazy about Christmas that sometimes it's all you can do to remind yourself to breathe.

I spent a lot of the day cleaning the house, which I hate doing but I love looking around and not seeing as much crap. While I was doing that, Eric was putting down his floor. It's the vinyl faux wood plank stuff, and he got close to halfway done. It looks amazing! Vinyl flooring has improved greatly since even 10 years ago. The stuff looks a whole lot like wood. You can see repeating patterns if you look hard enough, but there's even texture on it.

I made wassail, which is very easy. It cooked in a crockpot for 4 hours, so it was pretty yummy. Then I made queso. It was the first time I've made queso, believe it or not. I like the stuff, but it isn't great for the diet and before I dieted I tended to go more for sweet junk food rather than chip-related snacks. But, hey, Relaxathon. Plus we used low-fat Velveeta. I added picante sauce, since we happened to have some, but I think if I ever make it again I'll go with the canned stuff because the salsa turns it sort of a calamine lotion color that's not all that appealing. Cathy and Dave brought snacks too. I ate poorly, and experienced something I haven't in forever- a bellyache from too much junk. I got better though.

With all that, you wouldn't think we'd have had time to have so much sex yesterday. But it was something in the air, or something. 4 times. Yay! It's nice to know we still have it after nine years.

Wassail recipe (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] appleang and [livejournal.com profile] walbourn)
8 cups apple cider or juice
1/4-1/2 cup packed brown sugar (I think less is better)
6 inch cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp allspice
1 orange, sliced thin
optional: 1/4-1/2 cup orange juice (I always add this, and more is better)
Heat and serve. The longer you cook it the better, thus the crock pot. Add your favorite booze to your cup to make it festive in that liver-damaging way. Spiced rum goes especially well.

I'm not giving anybody my PIN if I'm out of wassail!
