Someone on a list I read asked who owns a gun and why. My answer was that I don't personally have one, but that Eric is a certified gunsmith (no, really) and has several. When we were first dating and he told me this, the first question I asked him was if he was a hunter. I was not sure I could date someone who shot animals for funsies (living in high-falutin' white picket fence suburbia with his parents at the time, I knew he would'nt've been hunting for his supper, which I wouldn't have had a problem with). He reassured me that he was not, he just likes guns for themselves. He's a weapon freak. Right now, he is trying to shoot a cockroach off of our vaulted ceiling with a foam earplug shot out of a blowgun. I shit you not. And no, I don't think killing roaches in our house is equivalent to shooting animals for funsies, so *nyaah*. He also has a few swords, slingshots, and what he calls his 'giant cartoon mallet.' He really would like to buy an atlatl; maybe for his birthday. From http://www.atlatl.com/. No, really.
We've shot cans and the like, and been to a local shooting range. Getting a concealed carry license is one of those things we both intend to get around to one of these days. One of the things that we'd have to do is get me my own gun. He's thinking of getting a Springfield XD 9mm sub-compact. It's a girly gun that just makes a little *poot* noise when it fires, I'm told.
