We didn't have any plans for Friday night, so I got out a box of henna (the one with the fox on it) that I wanted to try and color my hair with. My hair is that non-color that is either ash blond, light brown, or whatever. It is the beige of hair colors. But hub hates the idea of me using nasty chemicals on it, and I'm not too hot on the idea either. So we picked up a box of red henna at Whole Foods. We mixed it up, and decided it'd be best to apply it naked so as not to stain clothes, except I wore one of his ratty t-shirts in case it got on my shoulders.
So there we are, naked but for me wearing a 2 sizes too small t-shirt, watching TV as hub is trying to comb this muddy paste in my hair. It certainly smelled nice, especially compared to what most hair-dye products smell like. We had a bunch left over, so of course we had to try and dye hub's pubes. The instructions were maddeningly vague about how long to leave it in; we were supposed to do a patch test first and time how long it took to get 'the desired color'. That assumed I had a color goal in mind other than 'something besides what I have now', so it was all guess-work. Then there was the fact that it took a while to get all the stuff into my very thick hair with a small comb, so the stuff on the top was probably in quite a bit longer than the stuff on the bottom. But depending on what you wanted to call my hair color, I was supposed to expect either 'natural red' or 'reddish brown', according to the chart. Hub's pubes would be either 'warm auburn' or 'reddish black'.
After an hour we jumped in the shower and washed it all out. I let it dry naturally, and it looks a little more red, but not alarmingly more red. Sadly, hub's pubes look about the same but his pale skin beneath is sort of a burnt-orange color. I was so intent on rinsing my hair that it was a few minutes before I looked down and saw the effect, which caused me to shriek, which almost gave hub a heart attack. As he puts it, you never want anyone, especially your wife, to look at your goods and make that kind of noise.
Yesterday was Beltane. It was written by one of the Trad solitaries here in town, and was the first ritual in a long, long time where I didn't have to do anything but show up with food for feast. I would have had a thoroughly amazing time except that it was really hot and humid, and we had lit a fire in the circle. I'm all for traditional rites (jumping the fire) but maybe since we live in Texas we should move it to Imbolc in February or something. *bitch, moan, whine* Really though, it was a great ritual and I had a good time. I was exhausted when I got home though, and just melted on the couch while hub read and watched TV.
I was just about to go to bed when Bob called, and asked if he could come over. He had a busy weekend so far, attending a few parties and an honest-to-goddess rave. You know, where they announce the location at the last minute and you drive to the middle of nowhere and there are all sorts of illegal substances being passed around, and dancing and techno music. He had a great time, and we are all looking forward to Flipside. I think I have convinced Gordon to loan or rent his van to me so we will have a place to camp. Anyway, we 3 soaked in the hot-tub for a bit, then went inside and chatted a bit more. I put on some DMB videos and Bob promptly fell asleep, so hub and I went upstairs. I thought I'd fall asleep right away, but I had gotten a little bit of a second wind, so I stayed up and read until almost 1am.
I came into work today- I haven't worked Sundays for about a month. I think I actually like working Sundays- there's no traffic, only a few people are here, and not a lot of calls. Although we're still busy enough; I will be glad when May is over. We always seem to get a ton of calls in April and May; I think PRS runs a bunch of commercials promoting awareness around this time of year.
