I was off early today because they are making me go to some stoopid training on my day off. So, out I wander at 1pm local time, which (thanks to DST, which I object to) is actually high noon. Blimey, it's hot!! But after some standard grumbling, I reminisced about the days when I was a tot living in San Antonio, and had the run of the apartment complex we lived in while mom worked. I remember getting up early to go swimming at the complex pool, and staying there all day.

I wonder how man's ancestors dealt with heat like this. Did they stay in the river all day? I spent many hours along the cypress-shaded Guadalupe around Kerrville and Ingram, and can imagine that as well.

I would like to move back to the country some day.

A fellow in the daily birdcage liner has been keeping a diary of his travels to Alaska, a place I've always wanted to visit. I look with longing at satellite pictures of the country taken at night, and the miles and miles of darkness in remote areas around Montana, Canada, and Alaska. What must the sky look like from there, unpolluted by city lights for hundreds of miles?

Hell is other people indeed. I read an essay today from a fellow who complains of the morality crisis today, and how we waste our compassion on animals when there are people starving. I cannot imagine the mindset of such as that. The idea that compassion is a limited resource to be hoarded and doled out grudgingly to the 'right' ones in the first place is foreign to me. I won't even go there today- I think I will go swimming and enjoy the outside while I can.

It feels strange to be in the house alone today.

Pool...
Oh boy, I was planning on having a pool someday.
Streams are nice though. They freeze faster in the winter so you can ice skate on them. Of course you probably don't get any freezing there?
I met this cabbie one day who lived in a cabin and bathed in a river. If you asked him, he would have said it was "his" river. :)
Alaska, Montana ect...
Nebraska has a yearly star party. People flock from all over the world to attend. They rave about the perfect visiablity there. Someday...
