Feh. I had another one of those calls where it doesn't fall under our jurisdiction, so we can't do anything. Yeah, it's unpleasant that mom and 3 yo kid has become homeless, but it's not illegal. So I offered to give vindictive grandmother a list of resources that mom could contact to get help, but she didn't take it, basically because she doesn't talk to mom (the kid is her son's) and said (all together now) "I guess the child will just have to die before you do anything." Fuck you, grandma, this is not something you should try to shuffle off on CPS; if you're not willing to contact the right people to handle this problem, you're a lot more culpable than anyone else.
And I am almost certainly hosed with regards to my shift change request. They accepted it, which was nice, but they got a lot of requests. So I asked how they decide, and she said they go by tenure. Well, you can't even request a shift change until you've been here for a year, and I have 1 year tenure as of 2 weeks ago. So the odds that all the other people that want that shift have less tenure than I are, shall we say, vanishingly small.
