So, I kept checking the weather hotline. Come in at 10. Come in at 10. Come in at 10. Everyone was supposed to come in at 10; schools, other government workers... that pretty much covers everyone in Austin: schools and government workers (not really, but yeah). It is still 23°, so all the ice that was there at 8 is still there- and making everyone come in at 10 just moves rush hour over. So I was dreading it and dragging my feet and thinking 'maybe I should wait and just have to eat a half hour of leave' and going back and forth. But I sucked it up and put on my new happy cold weather coat and was just about to head out the door at 9:45, and called one last time.

Offices are closed.

But if they changed it that late, all the people who were probably going to try to make it in by 10 had already left (thanks for nothin', stupid weather line) so it sucks because they're all gonna get to work and have to turn around. Except the hotline. Because even when we're closed, we're not *closed*. In other words, I'm going to get 8 hours of Ice Terror Alert Level Orange 2005!!!!!!!! leave, so if I decided to kick back today I'd still have to take 2 hours of leave (yeah, they kind of stick it to people who work 10 hour days). And the lines will still be open, and they will be desperate for people to man them, even though we probably won't get a lot of calls. So I'll probably kick back for a couple of hours and go in anyway. I won't get comped for the Ice Terror Alert Level Orange 2005!!!!!!!! leave I didn't take, but I'll get a very nice email from the program director thanking me for my hard work and dedication and for showing sundry and all that "I am PRS!" (one of our stupid corporate logos that your tax dollar probably paid some consultant way, way too much money to make up a couple of years ago. You should see the other ones- they're even worse)

Be ubercareful - I've heard several tales of driving woe just from LJ friends. Maybe take the bus for the bulk of the trip? That'd be awell-spent dollar.

Does this mean I don't have to go in at all?

Basically yes. I think the deal is, they'd like you to try to go in if you can, but if you don't you won't have to take any leave (assuming you work an 8 hour day).
