It's been a busy week, and will continue to be busy. Tuesday hub's dad took us out to dinner for hub's birthday. We went to Mesa Ranch. In the past, I've gotten their very tasty chicken fried venison, but that seemed ill-advised what with this diet and all. So I got the portabella appetizer (2 grilled port caps with some bread crumbs and cheese), an ear of corn, and a salad. But I couldn't resist their desserts- they'd always run out of the ones I wanted to try but everything was in that night. I had a 'chocolate decadence'- basically a brownie box filled with mousse and covered with ganache. I was only able to eat half of it and the rest awaits.

Last night Stephen came over and we went out for hub's birthday proper. He picked Eddie V's, a place that served mainly seafood. There was complimentary valet parking, which was amusing enough with the Odyssey but would've been even more fun if I was still driving the Catalina. Ah well. Anyway, I cannot stand seafood of any kind, but they had a handful of other things to tempt me. I had the spinach salad with goat cheese and wild mushrooms and vinaigrette. The cheese balanced the tart vinaigrette really wonderfully, and I don't even usually notice crap like that. Hub and Stephen had stuffed COLOSSAL! shrimp and tempura scallions scallops. I didn't know it, but hub apparently loves scallops. He talked me into trying a sliver of one, and it was rubbery and creepy. More for him!

For dinner I had a chicken breast with wild mushrooms. I gave my hand a nice little second-degree burn by grabbing the plate; the waitron didn't warn me about it but then again, she was using an oven mit to hand it over so that should've been a clue. Hub also ordered a side-dish of mushrooms; their sides are big enough for 4 people so I was able to get even more shrooms. They were your typical little button shrooms in garlicky butter. The chicken was pretty tasty too, and it was interesting trying all the different sort of strange mushrooms that accompanied that. I'd have to look them up; the only one I knew the name of was the shiitake, but I recognized a couple of others too.

Hub had a slab of salmon, and Stephen had a big hunk of steak split in half and stuffed with crab meat. They were both fairly happy with these dishes, and Stephen and I both had doggie bags to take home. I just had the rest of the chicken for lunch- it kept it's flavor (chicken having flavor! What a concept!) but the mushrooms suffered a bit.

We decided to skip on the fancy expensive desserts and headed over to Amy's Ice Cream. Hub was happy to find some Mexican-named ice cream was actually cinnamon with candied (pecans, I think?) mixed in. I had a small bit of grasshopper (a chocolate mint alcoholic drink) and had them mash in some Junior Mints, why not. Very tasty.
