It seems, if a judge were to so interpret things that way, I'm no longer married.

You may have heard that Texas passed a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, which wasn't legal anyway. Here's the exact wording:

"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

If you know math, you may recall that A=A. What's something that is identical to marriage? Oh, I dunno... marriage? So, technically, Texas can't recognize it. So, single again! Guess I have to send the presents back. :P

Does Texas recognize any sort of common-law marriage?

The wording here suggests that common-law marriages would also be prohibited, since it, too, is similar ot marriage.

There is common-law, and it was looking at that which caused folks to realize- hey, this might not just torpedo common-law marriage if applied 'just so', but all marriage...

JK, but I'm surprised the conservatives didn't get the message out that Prop2 torpedoes commonlaw marriage as well. I know a few conservative community leaders were trying to tell people that "this is not the anti-gay ammendment we're looking for" (I got a phonecall about it!), but I guess the great unwashed masses didn't listen.
