Some soundtracks you get sick of, some grow on you. I'm about ready to fire 'Braveheart'. However, 'Children of Dune' gets better every time I listen to it.

Guests from Houston seem to be doing well. Rita appears to be veering away from Houston proper, so they are cautiously optimistic that they will have some house to return to. I think they were really, really lucky to have left they did by the route that they took. Some of the travel times I'm hearing have been horrible.

I was able to get some good sleep in, and visited the random chiropractor. Mine doesn't work Thursdays or weekends, and since I planned to be at work today I figured I had to either find one yesterday or wait 'til Monday, and that would've sucked. There was a pretty unpleasant sharp pain in my lowest low back every time I sat or laid down or got up.

So I started calling random chiros who seemed to be nearby. After the third one, I found a fellow over near 183 and Anderson Mill who could see me. The office was in a dumpy strip mall across from a Shell station. I explained to his receptionist that I had a regular chiro, this was just a one-shot visit, but she seemed saddened by this. She asked me a couple of times if I was sure, and mentioned that my other chiro was in Round Rock, but this guy was in Austin and I was in Austin too. Leave it alone, lady!

The chiro was good though. He was a steve. You know what a steve is- the sort of good-natured, intelligent but not intellectual easy-going kind of frat-boy type guy that you'd go have a beer with. I wasn't sure about having a steve as a chiro but he seemed to know his stuff. He put me on one of those tables that has the rolly things in it that gives you a back massage, and he slapped a heating pad on it too. Oh, that was niiiiice. He also did some poking and prodding, and though I thought it was my tail bone it was actually the vertebra right above it- S1. He jabbed it and said "does this hurt here?" shit yeah! Ow! You got it steve.

After the rolly table treatment I went and got on the regular table and he started working. My regular chiro uses an activator, a little spring-loaded number that thumps you in a specific point. He seems more inclined to do it all by hand. Pushing, prodding, and while working on my perennially tense neck did one of those things where he grabbed my head and yanked it. I know that can fuck you up bad if done wrong, but it can also fix things if done right and I decided to trust him, which he thanked me for. I was rewarded with a satisfying crack and based on my rear-view mirror seem to be at least an inch taller today, which is usually a good sign.

He did a couple of things my chiro has not done- he poked around my head a little, saying he was activating acupressure points or something of that nature. Then he took this device that looked like a ball point pen with batteries attached to it, and poked my ear with it. He explained that it was running a very small current, and that does the same thing as acupuncture without using needles. I can dig it. He also showed me a stretch to open up my hip bone area.

I still get an occasional twinge but it's really quite a lot better, and was immediately. That's all I ask for. He also said that if I saw my regular chiro about this and she had any questions that she could call him.

Anyway, I'll still probably continue going to my old chiro since I'm just stubborn like that, but this guy was good too. He also seemed to be hurting for business- while I am usually rubbing elbows with several people at current chiro's office, this guy did not have another person in his office the whole time I was there. So if you're looking for a chiropractor and want to check this guy out, his name's Dr.Garrett Bary.
