It was the New Moon yesterday. Our grove always tries to schedule some sort of social get-together on New Moons, and Gordon wanted to take this one. He arranged for us to meet at a Denny's in south Austin and then drove us out to the wild bit of land he just bought. I carpooled with him, along with Lauren and Tim. Tim's been showing up more- he's this great greying hippie who is just so relaxing to be around. It was cool to hang out with him. Phil met us at the Denny's and we all enjoyed lunch. Gordon started to micromanage things, and I pointed this out to him and asked him to relax and just enjoy being with his friends- I think he heard me, too. He picked up the tab, which was quite nice of him.
We drove out to his land, and he pointed out landmarks and interesting sights along the way. We all told stories and jokes and chatted and generally had a fun time. When we got to the land we piled out and explored a little- Tim was able to identify a lot of the plants around and Gordon showed us a few clearings and speculated about what would make a good circle site, and a good camping site. He told us we could go out and visit whenever we wanted. Tim offered to come help him clear out some spots when it gets cooler.
I had coughing fit on the way back, and we stopped to get cough drops and snacks in Rockne (named after the Notre Dame football coach- really). More chatting and joking occured on the way back. It was quite a nice relaxing way to spend the New Moon. Gordon wants to leave his bit of land in as natural a state as possible; he wants to use it for camping and circles and as a little place to get away from it all on occasion. It's so far away from any major anything that I think it's safe from ending up a strip mall any time in the forseeable future. There is a gigantic pine tree about halfway in that must be a hundred years old. I brought home a big pine cone for Pan.
