I wonder what the Repubs mean when they make noise about the Iraq war being to spread freedom. Apparently they don't mean the ability for women to vote or for people to criticize their government, for instance. If they had their way, I wonder how many of our freedoms they would get rid of.

I find it sadly ironic that Alan Sager, chairman of the Travis County Republican Party, equates speaking out against the Iraq war to "encouraging terrorists." After all, our administration justifies the war as a way to thwart terrorism by bringing democracy — including its sometimes inconvenient components like free speech — to the people of the Middle East.
If freedom of speech is important enough that young American men and women are dying for it in a foreign land, surely the Republican Party can tolerate it here in Texas.
