There are two big rooms that we phone monkeys all occupy here at work. There's the 'Big Room' where I sat for 3 years. It had nice big picture windows to look out of, even if you didn't sit right by one. Then there's the room where I sit now, called the Addition, the Cave, the Womb, or what I like to call the Veal Room. No windows. I miss seeing the sky sometimes.

There's a drought here. It snuck up on me; it was so cool and rainy all spring that I was relieved to see some sunny hot days that heat up the lake and make it fun to go swimming. But there hasn't been a drop of rain in too long. A lot of our yard is yellow, the grass along the highways is yellow and prone to catch fire when there's a wreck, and barn swallows are almost continuously dive-bombing my swimming pool. I hope all that chlorine isn't bad for them.

There's a few potential hurricanes out in the Gulf. Cindy was looking promising, but she ploughed into Louisiana. Dennis might bring relief, but he also looks like he's headed towards NOLA. I'm trying to tempt him here, while also politely asking that he not pound Houston to kibble along the way; I have friends there.

We had window guy come out and measure for the new windows. Fortunately he can work around our furniture so there won't be too much disruption. That'll happen in about 5-6 weeks.

I came in at 8am today, and will get to sign off the phones at 4:30. Sadly, it's because I get to go to a training, which lasts 'til 11pm. This will get all my training for the next couple of years out of the way, but after 5 days off it's a hell of a long day. And I didn't sleep well, so I'm kind of in zombie mode today. Ugh.

Rain, rain, rain, rain, raaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn........

8 a.m. to 11 p.m.? Too cold. Sounds like too much oppression from The Man. If you and your colleagues decide to go all union on that ass...put me down for the midnight shift on the picket line.
