Oh dear, another day at work.
Yesterday I spent trying to stay out of the heat. I need to hit the lake one of these days and justify that expensive park pass I bought last fall, but I haven't felt motivated for some reason. I did get my car inspected and lubed, and picked up the house a bit and bought stuff to make another batch of ice cream. When the chef got home I talked him into trying a recipe for mint, so we went out to pick some. It was pretty cool, we picked about 2 cups of spearmint leaves and it doesn't seem to have made a dent in the patch at all. I'd say we have a nicely established patch. Now, go, take over the yard! *shooing motion*
He cooked it up and added just a smidge of creme de menthe, and set it to chill and age. The mint gave up it's essence pretty quickly and started turning a rather unappetizing shade of brown after a couple of hours, so he strained it out. He mixed it up this morning, and damn, is it minty. Yansa might even say "mintesque". It's gonna set all day and then we will have it for dessert tonight, along with home made pizza. Yay!
Gordon got a raise and felt guilty about it, so he took us out to dinner. I wanted to go to Cheesecake Factory and get a bunch of artichoke, but they were insanely busy for no reasons we could determine (like an hour wait on a Monday night, really weird). So we went down the road to Macaroni Grill and tried to hear each other over the noise- that place has the worst acoustics. The dinner was pretty good though; they had 'make your own pasta' so we checked off a sauce and ingredients. Good idea, that; I was still able to get my artichoke fix. Then we went to his place to see the work he'd had done- he'd had a lot of dark paneling removed and had it all repainted, and it looks totally different. It was fun to visit and chat with Gordon.
