Okay, I'm reading this the next day and it still cracks me up. No offense to any SCA folks on the list...

When I was 17 and really into TRF and stuff I tried to join the local SCA. I wanted to be a fighter but at that time they didn't let girls be knights. I told them where to stick their padded weapons.

I'm glad I didn't join after watching them play for a little while. It reminded me of 4th grade.
"I hit you with an ice ball!"
"Nuh-uh! I flamed you first with my fire ball! You're dead!"

This is not the SCA I'm familiar with at all . . . boffer weapons are only for kids league, there are no magic spells, and the most impressive fighter was a 6'5" woman who wore a horse-tail helmet (thus towering over all the men).

Are you mixing Ampguard/HFS with SCA, or were they? And not letting girls swing sticks? That's a bad way to get them doing it anyway, and not when you're wearing armor to soak it with.

Oh, yah know... I think I am confusing them. It was Ampguard. I found out they changed their policy later and let girls play with sticks.

Yeah, for Faire participants I've had to get on some people sitting in their costumes that they sank serious money in... and eating out of cardboard containers. :::sigh:::
