I was in south Austin so I figured I'd go check out a relatively new witchy store called 'Earth Art'. Their first store is in Bryan-College Station, of all places, where Mom used to live and where I got that really fabulous statue of Pan about a year ago (was it only a year?!) so I figured they deserved my patronage. It was just down the road from Phil's salon. It was a little house and was really pretty cramped. No matter where I went in the store I was always within 10-15 feet of the guy at the counter, and he was not content to let me shop in peace. Normally chatty salespeople don't bother me so much, but being in a dark, stuffy little room with someone who kept pestering me with suggestions and comments was just irritating so I was not in the mood to spend my money there. I went up the road to Whole Life Books and poked around there, and felt much relieved. I also guess I'm more in a book mood than a tchotchke mood, which kind of makes sense considering where I am in life right now. It was an effort not to walk out with $100 worth of books, and they didn't even have a copy of the book Kirby'd recommended. I got The Greatness of Saturn, which looks like a really interesting tale describing the the 'personalities' of the astrological planets from a Hindu perspective. I also picked up a book I'd been wanting to get for some time, The Hidden Messages in Water, which straddles the line between squooshy New Ageism and quantum physics, I'm told. Plus it has lots of pretty pictures. Off to read now.
