Woke up this morning (*blues riff*) with just about enough time to get dressed and get on the road to go see Phil for my hair. It sounds so girly to refer to the guy who styles my hair by his first name, but I happen to have been friends with him for years before I let him touch my head. I have mostly been going to Supercuts because it's cheap (why the hell else does anyone ever go to Supercuts?) and I have pretty simple tastes when it comes to what I want done with my hair. So I never saw much point in spending more than $12 to tell someone 'take an inch or so off at the top and layer the rest accordingly.' But amazingly I can get pretty variable results even still. So since Phil loves what he does and does it well (as far as I know, I do not claim to be wise in the ways of such things) and gives me his 'friends price' of $35, I decided it was worth the extra to have some consistency. He also believes we can get my hair to grow longer without it looking like a freaky afro which is what happens when I just decide to not get it cut.
So I arrived at Topaz Salon on the other side of town. He did his thing, then asked if he could straighten it out. It's a labor-intensive process involving a lot of spray and goo and irons and fussing and it therefore is pretty expensive, but he offered to do it for free I guess since he didn't have any appointments after me, and maybe I'm a good guinea pig for it (here's what it looked like the last time he did it). It looks the same as the last time without the additional red from the dye. He's also going to get me some decent shampoo and conditioner; the stuff I got at the store is terrible and I'm not sure why I switched. He thinks my hair will especially appreciate Biosilk... I came into a bit of money, so I'm willing to give it a shot.
The straight hair will go away with the first wash. But being someone with straight hair is a completely weird and strange experience for me. I tried getting it straightened chemically a couple of times years ago, but it didn't stick around for a substantial enough amount of time to justify the cost and the damage done to my hair. So for the most part I let it do what it wants and leave it alone aside from washing it and cutting it occasionally. Having it straight therefore is quite unusual. I think the thing I notice about it most is how it lays against my head, so I feel it all the time. Usually it floats around my head like a rather thick gravity-defying cloud.
It's already trying to curl again. So if any of youse want to see me with straight hair, you have about 24 hours.

I used less than a pea sized drop when I had ass-length hair. Using more than the tiny bit causes massively sticky, stringy hair. It's a fine line between diva and dork, with that stuff.
