Last night, we watched episode 2 of Cosmos. Bob, Bean and Colin were there too. I didn't ask Colin, so I don't know for sure but I think none of the rest of them have ever seen it either. There was a segment where this scientist was putting various gases in a large glass bulb that had tiny electrodes inside that sparked sporadically to simulate lightning. After a few hours (this was shown in time lapse obviously) the glass became streaked with a reddish-brown goo, then so thickly coated with it that the glass became completely opaque. The goo was organic molecules, or as Sagan put it- the 'stuff of life.' Bean and Bob watched this with their mouths hanging open, and when the goo appeared Bean yelled 'Neat!' It's times like that when I think about how much I love to teach- showing people the wonders of (insert your subject here) and getting that sort of awe-struck reaction is wonderful to see.
Then Adult Swim came on, and we all laughed ourselves silly watching 'Sealab' and 'Space Ghost'. After that we listened to Musical Starstreams and got all mellow. Ahhh, that was nice.
This morning was a horrible contrast. %&*$@! cat launched himself off the alarm clock radio, causing it to crash to the ground. I'm awake now! Then I discovered that someone missed the litterbox, there are arrest warrants for people who used to live here being mailed to our address but the police admin office is closed for the holiday, causing Eric to wonder if cops will be busting our door down... we both just wanted to go back to bed.
