On Sunday we both woke up rather early at the B&B. I don't think either of us slept well; a full-size bed is not that much smaller than an queen but when you tend to sleep like a starfish (or a swastika, as I've also heard it described) it becomes noticeable. We decided to toddle downstairs and see what was for breakfast. The owner was busy in the kitchen but breakfast was not forthcoming for a good while. We sat in the mess hall and chatted amicably with several folks while we waited. Finally it was served around 11am. Damn.

A full sheet pan of homemade biscuits plus another large skillet with even more biscuits was the base. There was a huge pot of chunks of potatoes and onions, and a ton of bacon. Then there were 2 cast-iron skillets full of bacon gravy. It's like I died and went to carb heaven. It was delicious.

I wanted to get a swim in before we left, even though there was no check-out time. Hub was game to go with me, and we waded down the river. Sometimes the going was a little rough, because the river would get narrow and really fast, and it was a challenge not to loose your footing and white-water face-first. Other times it was nice and smooth and fun. We went a ways down and explored sand banks and (what are they when they're not caused by tides) pools and had some May day fun, scaring the fish. We decided to explore upriver, which ended up being a hell of a lot more challenging, because if you lost your footing you ended up going backwards. We went almost up to the dam, which was quite a workout. We floated back to our starting point and loaded up the car and headed home at about 3:30 or so.

We didn't have any time to go home and still make it in time for the (very early) New Moon event, which was dinner at Freebird's and a boat tour of Town Lake and the Congress bridge bat colony. Hub was about ready to curl up in a ball from all the social interaction by this time and was quite a good sport. I didn't have a lot of expectations of the tour, but it was actually quite nice. There were seats for maybe 25 and there was maybe 10 people. It was cool and breezy and our tour guide was quite knowledgeable and talkative. Town Lake is a lot prettier than the name makes it sound, and we do have a charming skyline, though I may be somewhat biased. The Sun set, it got cooler, and the boat arrived at the bridge just in time to see the little critters start pouring out by the zillions. He even maneuvered us so that the bats were between us and a street light, so that we could see the light shining through their little webbed wings. I was quite impressed, even though I was a bit worried that I was going to be pooped on. Mielikki is not the Scat Man. Anyway we got home around 10pm and went straight to bed and zonked out after that.
