It must remain until later to find out what happened on day 2 of the Llllano trip (hint: eating and swimming) because I was terribly busy today. Okay, more like consistently busy. I got up, and got brekkie, and started on the fish tanks. They had been neglected for far too long and needed some serious cleaning, which involved taking some filters apart. I also paid bills as it's the 1st of the month and I get paid monthy. This was depressing, because with this along with cat expenditures I'm not gonna have a lot of screwing-around money this month.

Bölt is due for a teeth-cleaning, a blood check for his kidleys and his summer 'do. He does not sit nicely in the dental chair with a little kitty bib on, but goes ballistic any time the vet tries to so much as point in his direction. So he gets sedated to a pudding-like consistency and all that's taken care of at once. His summer 'do, incidentally, is featured in my brother's journal for your viewing pleasure. As a compare and contrast, here he is with his regular winter coat. I was also issued prophylactic antibiotics, and boy is that gonna be fun. But hey, he goes to sleep and then wakes up with clean teeth and no fur. I don't know what he has to complain about. He lives in Texas, and becomes an over-heated matted flea-feast if he doesn't get his 'do every year.

I also went to a local gift shop and bought some trinkets to send to Mom, and then went to the postal office next door and mailed 'em off. Got a lot done, but still crabby. It occurred to me that our Beltane ritual is scheduled Friday, and I have to work, most likely 'til 8. That blows goats for nickels. I hope I can get off.

Awww Yansa won't let me do that to Derby! Well I don't think Derby would let me either, but it sure would help on the shedding and matts.

Whyever not? The advantages are mickle- less places for fleas to hide, gets rid of mats, less dander to make you sneezy, cooler- the way we do it is tell everyone that's visiting to be sure and comment on how smashing he looks, and praise him like he's the best-looking thing since Adonis. He gets pretty smug and full of himself, and it doesn't hurt that he gets pet more because he's all velvety. I highly recommend the summer 'do!

I've had to do this to Puddy a few times, as he'll go out a-wanderin' and purposefully seek out the closest briars or...oh, those tiny things that catch in anything not made of glass. He also requires the clown hammer - the last grooming place I took him to refused to ever groom him again. And this is my sweet passive (but very limber) chickenshit cat, and they were all talking about him like he sprouted shiny red horns and ate the nearest kitten.
