After that auspicious start to the day, I've been fairly productive. I've finally got all my Aromaleigh samples into manageable containers and labelled (try to apply eyeshadow from a teeny ziplock baggie) and pitched my old make-up. I've folded Laundry Henge, started building another one, picked up all over the house, taken trash out, cleaned up the kitchen, loaded and run the dishwasher, and cleaned out the pool. It's oak catkin season- it's very easy to lose your nice clean pool during oak catkin season and end up with a large brownish-green petri-dish, especially because oak catkin season is quickly followed by tiny caterpillar season. Those things will really mess with your pool filter. But I'm on top of it, and I also raked an ass-load of leaves because oak catkin season is preceded by fall-in-the-spring season. Have I mention how much I love living in a house surrounded by live oaks?
So hub is playing games with his nerd friends, and I'm here with an evening before me. No one is answering their phone; they're all at Spamarama or avoiding me or something. I'm trying to decide what to do with my evening. I'm reluctant to commit to anything that will keep me out late, because we're having a house guest for the week and he's due in late tonight (like around 11, which also explains the uncharacteristic cleaning spate). What to do...
Oh, my work week was unremarkable. I got a rare craving for chicken friend steak (I get those maybe once a year) and we tried to go to Stonehouse Grill last night, but they were closed. I'm worried about them; I mean, why isn't a restaurant open on Friday night, for crying out loud? I hope they haven't closed for good. I couldn't talk hub into a drive down to the Nutty Brown Cafe, so we ended up at Saltgrass for the first time (for me at least). We'd tried to eat there the night before our wedding, but there was a 2-hour wait- as it was, we had to wait about a half-hour. I had fried mushrooms, which I haven't indulged in for some time. They were fantastic. The steak was fine, and to make up for the fried shroomies I had green beans instead of the 48 different kinds of starchy sides they offered (usually variations on potatoes, but there was also onions and rices and yams). They were those fresh skinny beans that you also see on Chinese buffets- damn, I love those. They rolled them in salty garlic butter too, or a similar concoction, then grilled them. Not bad at all. In fact it even made up for the country music, and the decor consisting of boots, dead staring animals, license plates, and things shaped like Texas. This state can be annoyingly full of itself on occasion. But then again, for all I know this restaurant is based in Dubuque MN.
