Sunday good. Well, it started off with me feeling off my meds and being crabby. But Gordon took me for a walk in the woods and that really made it all better. I had just enough time to get home and get tarted up with the make-up for real, for the play. The folks who knew I was playing with it mentioned that it looked good; no one else said anything. So either they were horrified, amused, or didn't really notice. I'm hoping the last. I already worry that I look clown-like when I put the stuff on, but I sure like this stuff. I pretty much forgot I had it on except for the fact that I left lipstick smears on the napkin and when I happened to catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror. I didn't have that creepy feeling that make-up usually gives- friend Lisa calls this stuff the 'anti-make-up' which is accurate.
Dinner at East Side was fine. It wasn't remarkable except for the fact that it wasn't remarkable for hub, who had previously had a real run of bad luck with them. They somehow managed to screw something of his up every time they go, and the fact that they've always done right by me was not enough of a draw for him to ever want to return again. But he was a good sport and was rewarded. Well, he wasn't punished anyway.
The play was a lot of fun. This is Sleeping Beauty by the way, with most music written by friend Content. I enjoyed the music quite a lot. The story was okay, and the acting was mostly good. There was one fairy who a friend refers to as the 'Carol Kane with Tourette's' that had a twitchy babbling patter that was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, and she muttered to herself throughout a lot of the play. Also the cook kept smashing a metal bowl with a spoon, and it sounded like a gun going off; maybe I was feeling especially sensitive that night, but both of these things were jarring and irritating. Watching Sam doing spinny things with her spinning wheel thingymabob was pretty cool however, and the set was beautiful. I think one of my favorite parts was the Prince. He had this very Austin City Limits vibe; wasn't a striking youth but more of a mellow dude who just seemed very well put-together and likable. He even had a likable name- among all the weird names swirling around, he was just Prince Dave. And there was the King too- I'm almost positive he was the guy who was Zeus in the reading of the Persephone play Sheena and I went to. He does kingly roles quite well, and Gordon was drooling about him too. I wish I had more to say about the music other than I liked it; I usually have to hear a song a couple more times to have a more useful opinion.
Content was positively buzzing with energy when we saw her after. She said she loved it when people bring their little girls to see it, so I've been trying to push the play on my friends with little girls. If you're local and have one or two (even if it's inside you), go see it!
Monday and yesterday I've been doing a lot of grove stuff. Phil came over for his second degree testing, and did really well. Yesterday I wrote Oestara and transcribed the second degree Initiation ritual, which I haven't had to do 'til now because I've never had to do a second degree Initiation before. I think I am prepared. I will be doing his next Saturday, after having done Lauren's first on Friday. That weekend's gonna kick my ass. I think maybe then I will use my spa gift certificate. Oestara is this Saturday, but I imagine it will go smoothly.
Class went well last night. Gordon said afterwards that now that I've mentioned to him that the teaching is my favorite part, that he can see that it really is my calling. Nice to hear. However, training at work is apparently different. Maybe because some of the trainees I've gotten were not doing well or were just really negative; not sure if they were sticking me with the tough ones as a trial-by-fire or to discourage me or what, but I must say I'm a bit relieved to be on the phones today instead.
