After puttering, we took off for movie night at Kirby's friend's house. In an effort to be somewhat good about my food intake we picked up healthy snacks and showed up pretty early even though we were late- but Kirby is the Early Queen so she was already there and able to introduce us around. There were some awkward moments because we didn't know anyone and everyone knew everyone else, but they were all mostly nice. The movie was Grade A cheese- Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. It was made in Canada with a budget of apparently around $300 or so, and was hysterically bad. The guy who played Jesus is the spitting image of local DJ Bob Fonseca. It was no Schindler's List, but amusing nonetheless. Plus we decided to screw healthy snacks and order Austin's Pizza- which is at least quality pizza so I don't think it counts as bad for you.
Today hub was sweating about the SXSW thing his job was sending him to. He mentioned for the bamillionth time about how he wished he had a laptop, and I told him to just go buy one already, and thus began the long, drawn-out battle to convince him that yes, it's okay to spend big hunks of money on something we don't need if we can afford it. We're a study in contrasts when it comes to this; if I have the money, I'll spend it on fun things and he'll save it for something practical. I think this is a nice balance, and it was fun rationalizing why he should get him that dang laptop. He did put up a good fight, but succumbed to my flawless logic and stuff.
He was getting anxious when we actually started to drive to the laptop store. I could see it in his jawline.
Mielikki: Nervous?
Hub: Yeah... it's a lot of money...
Mielikki: Want to do a divination?
Hub: Okay
Mielikki punches the radio button to a station that plays a lot of familiar songs; essential for radio-mancy. Song comes on; it's in the instrumental break so I don't immediately identify it... wait; I think it's...
Hub: 'Get out of my dreams, and into my car'
Mielikki: I don't think it gets much clearer than that!
I love radio-mancy. It's truly the best divination tool for me. We went all the way across town to the Apple store in Barton Creek mall. We got him a 12 inch Powerbook, 512 thingie-whatevers of extra memory, and a little carrying case. Then we popped over to Brö's and he charged it up in time to get to the convention center with minutes to spare. Me, I just had some guy pick up all the pieces of the old dead pool liner and cleaned up a bit. Tonight- D&D. Hooray for the Nerd Life!
