Sheesh, It's been a busy weekend, sort of. There was the funeral Saturday after playing D&D all day. On Sunday, we went to Book People to see Alton Brown for a book signing. Suffice it to say, either Alton Brown's manager is a moron or Book People is/are; there were 600+ people trying to see him in a space that was suitable for maybe 100 tops. This happened in the book store proper, not any actual appropriate space like a convention room, so people were sitting on the floor behind bookshelves (and toddlers were destroying displays, which was irritating) listening to him speak over the speakers. This started at 3, though you had to arrive at 1 to get tickets to have him sign a book. And to get a ticket, you had to buy one of his books. Not any one, but a specific one- so if you already had that one, you were screwed. We would have been happy to buy another of his to get it signed, but no. We showed up close to one with Brenda, who did buy that book- and she was about number 150 in line. So after he spoke, we sat around the bookshelves again with 600 tired crabby people and waited 'til past 7 to get the thing signed. I snapped a couple of pictures and shook the guy's hand, and that was cool, but whoever organized the event needs to be taken out back and beaten. Next time he comes to town, I'm skipping it unless it's at a different venue. Monday was more of a try to get rest that wasn't gotten over the weekend for me; poor hub had to go to work and suck it up. I took care of mundane house stuff and napped for the most part. Today has been all about getting ready for this year's class of new pagan students; I'm starting with six. We'll see how many of them stick it out.
