Apparently today is Rabbit Hole Day and everyone in LJ-land is supposed to post crazy insane bizarro-world stuff. So, I'm going to complain about my job, which I'm sure I never do ever. @@ Feel free to ignore it if you don't want to read it
So I was out yesterday, and came in to 5 separate emails from my boss this morning. 2 are complaining that I filled out my time sheet for last week wrong; this was the week with 2 state holidays in it, and when I came in extra on my day off for training. The time and leave system (especially for part-timers) is like trying to read ancient Sumerian and even my time keeper/leave person doesn't get it half the time, but she's the one who submits it to the time and leave gods so I had made a point to ask her how she wanted it filled out. I also took the time to go over my monthly leave balances with her, which as usual did not come anywhere close to what I had recorded (she's been trying to account for 20 extra hours of leave I have had on there for 2 months; she says she's going to point it out to the leave gods one last time and if they still don't clear it off she's just going to go ahead and give it to me; this is pretty typical). I can only do this when she's here, which is during the middle of the day, and I wanted to get it all straightened out.
So the first email says "your time sheet's wrong, it needs to be like this", and the second says "actually, it needs to be like this other way- please correct and re-sent" where 'the other way' seems to me to be how I filled it out in the first place.
The third email complained about me taking time in the middle of the day to work on leave stuff, when we're supposed to do it at the end of our shift. I'd previously emailed him to let him know I'd done that and why. The time keeper is not here at the end of my shift, and I've been doing this probably once a month for 2 years and no one else ever complained. I told him I'd try to take care of it over email in the future.
He also complained that I was showing extra hours worked and he didn't know why. I reminded him that I'd sent him an email (and gave the date) saying I was going to need to come in extra to get these stupid training hours, and did I need to clear the specific times I decide to do that or just come in- and he said just come in whenever. I'd also sent an email to everyone saying "I'm doing this training, anyone wants to go with me let me know!" so he had prior evidence of this. I told him I'd be sure to let him know specifically when I came in extra for training.
Also, he asked if I was still interested in doing peer training- which he'd previously told me I couldn't do because my stats weren't quite good enough. And he wants to meet me for a conference this afternoon (standard quarterly conference) and has already called me to change the times.
I don't suppose asking for a little consistency would be reasonable? Christ. I'm trying to get a handle on this guy's managerial style and it seems to be a weird mix of 'tell me everything!' and 'don't bother me with details!', plus a dash of forgetting that I've told him something and then griping at me about it after I'd already cleared it with him. He's asked me several times about my certification status ("do you have advanced certification?" "no, I'm working on it, and you'll know when I apply for it because you have to sign off on a stack of papers") and I give him the same answer every time; I'm betting he'll ask me about it again this afternoon. I'm starting to wonder if he has memory problems. Yes, I'm saving copies of everything.
Blaaaaaaarg!!!!!!!!! Also, why don't my little fox mood icons show up anymore? I miss them.
