Monday was spent dealing with mundania like bills and such, then Sheena and I went out and had some more fun girl time. Her doc had recommended she get a new bra or two, and she had told me that you don’t know from bras until you’ve been embra’d by a pro. So, with my curiosity piqued, she was kind enough to invite me to go along with her to Petticoat Fair. A little white haired old lady that has been running this place for over 40 years offered to measure me. I hadn’t quite decided to buy anything, but I was interested to find my size. She told me that you used to be able to get a much more personalized fitting at most department stores back in the day, but they decided it was cheaper to just fire the fitters and have a few racks of about a dozen or so sizes and let women guess. This leads to most women today having no idea what their actual bra size is.

Me, I’ve worn sports bras for the last several years. My boobs are happy enough in them; they get a little squashed into the uniboob but there’s no wires or hooks to mess with and they’re pretty comfortable. Plus they’re cheap. But there is the occasional, well, occasion where I’d rather not go with the squashed uniboob look, and the one bra I have for those times is so uncomfortable I just want to rip it off as soon as I get home. So when the lady asked me what I was after, I said ‘comfort.’ She measured me and declared me a 43DD. Madre de dios! I thought I was a 42C. She says most people make several mistakes when trying bras on and gave me the tutorial about what to do and how to do it; and that a lot of manufacturers do not take into account the notion that a breast is not a hemisphere that sits on the front of your chest; parts of is go back to your armpit and if you don’t have that accounted for, you’re gonna be uncomfortable.

So she then brought me about a dozen bras to try on, including one underwire (I’d told her I was avoiding those) that actually fit and felt comfortable. She critiqued the way they fit on me and we eliminated some. She was extremely professional and yet still very friendly, and I could tell she had definitely found her calling (it’s always a joy to deal with people like that). As you could imagine these cost a wee bit more than your average Target sports bra, however, so I limited myself to 2. They were almost as comfy as the sports bras, but gave me a much more noticeable rack. The prices ranged from $20 to close to $60. But I can see how you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. She gave me a spiel about proper bra care and feeding and sent me on my way. It was quite an educational experience!

There was a 2X leather corset marked down 75% at Forbidden Fruit that I had been curious about, and I decided to make a theme day out of it and drag Sheena along. This turned out to be a fortunate choice, because putting on something like that is a 2-woman job. It ended up being a waist cincher rather than a corset anyway, and was actually much too big for me. That boosted my ego a bit, actually, though it was a nice bit of leatherwork. And Sheena had one at home that she said I could ‘permanently borrow’ since she wasn’t hitting many corset-wearing events these days anyway. Groovy!

After that we went to Natural Treasures’ north branch and looked at pretty rocks. I picked up a couple more little tumbled guys for my bowl and a wee little oil warmer made of stone and with a pentacle carved in it. When I got home I warmed some of my Pan oil blend, and it stunk up the place quite nicely.

Hub’s dad popped by with a late-arriving x-mas present and to discuss Mac things with hub. I called Gordon because I needed to drop off a check, and he was in a generous mood. He had sold some stock that had done well, and said if we drove he’d take us out to dinner (review to follow). Afterwards we dropped him back at his place and watched clouds blowing across the sky rapidly, and I impulsively decided it would be nice to take a walk around the park that’s about a block away from Gordon’s house. Hub was game, and we both seemed to be in a frisky mood and ran off into the woods at one point to, you know, expose ourselves to nature and all. That worked off a sufficient amount of calories so that we both didn’t feel quite as foundered, and we went home and crashed soon thereafter.

I have always wanted to go to that place and buy myself a fancy bra.

You oughta- it's not just a luxury, it's good for you! As I said, my friend's doctor all but wrote her a prescription for it.

I should. Perhaps that will be my new job present to myself.

You know weirdly enough the most comfortable bra I've ever own in my life is a wonderbra from Victoria's Secret that I've had for at least six years. It shouldn't be so comfortable, but it is. I think it's so old that it's just molded right.

Where is Natural Treasures? I am telling Reesa about both that and this Petticoat Fair place as she needs to attend both.

It's in the used office furniture placed on the corner of Braker and Kramer.
