I was still sleepy but at least dressed when Kirby showed up for our Bastrop adventure. She was in a chatty mood so I let her talk while I drove. The shop was supposed to open at 11am, and despite a bit of locating trouble we arrived shortly after 11. No one was there, so we walked to a nearby coffee shop. Kirby then asked me what I would do if I won the lotto and could do anything. I said I would devote more time to being a High Priestess, and otherwise live the slacker lifestyle. Then we started talking about living in a commune, and it seems she's actually been thinking about it as long as I have. Hub and I have discussed it on several occasions, and he said he would enjoy cooking for a bunch of people. We agreed on some common characteristics of potential other members, and it seems our visions are pretty similar. I don't know if it will happen, but I will keep dreaming.

It was close to noon, and still no open shop. I called Hersh and he said Keridwyn should be there, and gave me her cell number. She said she was running late, and would be there in 20 minutes. Kirby and I decided to go to the rock shop rather than wait, and hit it on the way back. I wandered around while Kirby talked to the shop owner, and hadn't found anything I had to have. Then at the last second, people who'd been crowding around one of the counters moved away and I saw 2 things I liked right away. One, a small bowl made of malachite. It wasn't a single chunk but particle board malachite, for lack of a better term, with whole pieces up to about dime size. It was about $12, which is hard to beat. It had a scalloped rim of brass, but the bottom was all malachite too. She also had a display base with LED lights of varying colors, which you could run off batteries or a plug, and have it rotate or not. I got a crystal goddess carving some months ago that would look beautiful on the thing, and since it was less than $25 I grabbed it too.

Then to Hersh's since I wanted to get some incense, and Keridwyn had said that they didn't have much at the store awaiting proper display equipment. We drove up and a dog barked and barked and barked and barked, and when we eventually located Hersh the dog followed us down and barked some more. I have been bitten by dogs in the past and this makes me a bit nervous. Hersh said he was cool, though, and a goat took to following us around as well. Hersh took Kirby to show off the horses, and the goat and dog and another dog followed us in, and started playing with each other. The first dog would do the leaning-on-front-paws wolfy play-jump at the goat, who would then make a half-hearted head-butt in the dog's general direction. Repeat until I thought my head would explode from cuteness. The other dog just ran around and looked excited.

Hersh was not able to give me a price break like I'd gotten before because they've had a hard year. That was okay, though, because I know he has quality stuff. Hub wanted some new smells, so I got a bundle (100 wands or so) that was about half and half of 2 scents he picked out- spice (not surprising) and pine. I had no idea he liked pine- it's the first Sagittarian characteristic he's manifested, but it's fortunate because the Pan oil I like to wear has pretty heavy pine notes in it. Anyway, I also got a few of carnation and a few of watermelon because I like those occasionally, and when you bundle them all together with the pine and spice it smells just like Christmas.

After picking up my incense and extracting ourselves from Hersh's very talkative presence, we headed back to the storefront. Keridwyn was there and we had a look around. I picked up a couple of other trinkets, just to be neighborly and support home-grown businesses, and found out that not only was this the opening day of the store, but that Kirby and I were her first customers. Mine would've been the first dollar on the wall if I'd paid cash. It seems a somewhat inauspicious start, but I hope they do well.

We headed back to Austin and I called Gordon, since we had tentatively planned to go to the gem and mineral show and maybe see what could be had at Copenhagen's big-ass sale. Kirby and Gordon had not had lunch, so we went to Panda Express. Gordon picked up the tab, and I have to say it was worth what I paid for it. Ecch. By then it was pushing 4pm, and the show closed at 5 so we skipped that and went to Copenhagen after bidding farewell to Kirby. They had lots of really wonderful stuff, further enforcing the notion that I really like that sort of Scandinavian look of furniture (whether it's IKEA or Copenhagen) with its clean lines and lots of wood, especially if it's very light colored wood. But it was one of those sales where they tell you it's a sale, but everything seems as expensive as it was the last time you were in there. Oh well. It was still fun to look.

I did get to lie on a Tempurpedic mattress. You know, the memory foam that was developed for use in Space™ that you see infomercials on for late at night. It did feel very comfy. But they never have the prices on the commercials, and it seems the mattresses run over $1500. I dunno if I like them that much.

We got home in time for me to take a short nap before D&D. It went well, and we will play again next Friday before the DM goes off to Vermont for a vacation to see his family. He will return after my schedule changes and I don't know when we'll play next. We'll figure something out.
