It's been a relaxing few days in which I have apparently not posted anything of substance.

Wednesday was spent puttering around the house and picking up for a Very Nerdy Thanksgiving. Gordon was 'strongly encouraged' to take the day off (his department got a free day off as a reward for working so hard all year, and they pushed then to take it then- not really fair, if ya'da ast me) so he took me to lunch and we discussed all sorts of things and window shopped. We even went to Crate and Barrel and argued over the difference between amber and yellow, and got into a glitter fight. Then hub came home and we bemoaned the lack of anything good on TV, and he baked. Kirby called up, having had a really stressful day, and asked to spend some time at the House of Mellow. There'd been a cold snap to clear away the rain finally, so it was perfect hot tub weather- cold and dry.

We sat and basted and talked about our love lives and she had one of hub's new inventions, which he calls the apple-rita but I call happy apple sauce. It involves frozen apple juice concentrate and a whole bunch of booze (3 different kinds), and looks just like apple sauce. Kirby got giggly and cute and mellow. She hung out long enough to sober up and head home.

The next day was more cleaning, and the D&D group showed up around noon. I watched the very end of the Macy's parade and got a little misty for some reason, which was weird because I usually don't give a toss about the Macy's parade. I think it was a psychic mom thing or something because she called up later in the day and said she was feeling nostalgic and missing us and had a crying spell earlier. I reassured her I'd be up for Christmas.

I spend a lot of time the last few days fucking with the pool. It's fall, which happens even in Texas, in the sense that leaves fall off some of the trees. We have a cedar elm that shades the pool for a lot of the summer and then drops all it's leaves mostly into the pool. So I have to be the pool boy, which involves babysitting the leaf-sucking robot that gets very easily overwhelmed. There was one point where I was candling the damn pipes so I could clear the leaf blockage at night. Such are the benefits of the glamorous life I live.

D&D was good. We reached the final goal which involved destroying am ice-encased crystal before it destroyed the world blah blah blah. We came up with a flawless plan to do it through stealth that fell flat on it's face, and ended up having to kill everything and smash the thing with brute force. My druid character used every spell he had except one 0-level 'detect poison'; that was a first. The stealth plan involved me being made invisible, then turning into an eagle and flying around doing stuff. I found a site that hosted an mp3 of John Ashcroft singing "Let the Eagle Soar" and said it was my theme song. It was good for a laugh.

We wound things down in time for the cooking to ramp up. Mike the DM brought a turkey breast, pumpkin bread, and a church-lady dish that involved cool whip and oranges and cottage cheese (not as bad as it sounds). Brenda brought a chocolate pie and cheesy mashed potatoes. Brö and Tom came by with really tasty giant cookies with everything in them (oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, recipe available here). Gordon went to Boston Market and bought whipped yams, corn, and squash casserole. Hub's mom showed up with a cheese log. Hub made a crusted ham, fried stuffing balls with home-made regular or chipotle gravy, pumpkin pie, and cherry pie. I opened 2 whole cans of cranberry, smooth and chunky. It was a feast fit for at least a high-level government official, perhaps even some kind of ambassador. We foundered ourselves as was appropriate.

Friday was a pretty lazy day for the most part. The evening was a bit more busy; Sheena had had a rough day so she came over early and after a bit of R&R we decided to have her next class early. It worked out well, and we transitioned into ritual prep after Gordon and Phil arrived. It was her first ritual, so our first Full Moon with 4 Initiates and I really enjoyed it- I may get frustrated with some of the unpleasant politics and other miscellanea of running a group, but when it works well, it really comes off.

We decided to dine at Antonio's, and the service was wretchedly bad. However the food was quite tasty and the margarita was really strong, so hub was nice enough to drive us home and I bid farewell to all and we enjoyed a nice relaxing evening with the Full Moon in the window and candles burning down in the bathroom. There's a lot of mention in the pagan circles about how short the days are and the lack of light- but that means when the Moon's full, it's up high in the sky for the whole night- one of the longest, brightest Moons of the year, which has it's own magic.

We're trying to come up with something to do today besides eating pie for breakfast, preferably something outside. I'd be happy to avoid the TV which has already gone nuts with the holiday ads and enjoy some of this wonderful weather while it lasts.
