Birthday celebrations were very keen.
On my birthday proper, my new boss let me leave early so I went home and lounged about while hub made a lovely dinner. There was an artichoke of course, and garlic mushroom pasta, and cherry pie for dessert. I opened my prezzies and got this chalice and this pendant. The chalice- well, it's probably pretty evident why, since I'm such a Pan fangirl. I am especially happy with the nymph standing behind him grabbing his ass. The pin- well, there's a part of me that wonders where I'll wear it since I don't wear pins that often, and I'm not a huge LOTR fan, and I will look like a big dork. But it's a beautiful design, something I wanted regardless of the connections to any movie, and I loved it since I saw it, so I'll just figure out something to do with it. Then lots of birthday shagging. Yay birthday shagging!
Yesterday dawned rainy as hell. I made some cookies for scheduling guy since he was so nice in going out of his way to find me a shift I like. Some cynical folks have referred to it as a bribe or kissing ass, but the thing is, I'm giving them to him after he did what I wanted him to, so *pthbpbpbpbpbp*, it's just a nice gesture. I took the rest to a unit meeting, which was stultifying as unit meetings generally are. A couple of people had cookies, and most of the rest looked at them longingly and refused, which seemed to give them a sense of pride but just seemed a little sad to me. Which explains my current ability to displace quite a lot of volume, I suppose- but they were damn good cookies! Kirby was appropriately appreciative when I found her in the break room, calling me at home to check on dinner plans. As I came out of the building, the Sun came out. Yay!
I had settled on Nutty Brown Cafe for birthday dinner with friends, which I knew was not conveniently close but it was what was sounding tasty. I had many take me up on the offer to be a Homernaut and drove six of us down in the minivan, and another 5 showed up at the place. It was a really nice time for me, though I think hub got overloaded from all the people. My food was pretty tasty too, though a couple of others had problems (including Gordon, who is always very high-maintenance so I don't know if I should count him). Also Sheena had some digestive distress, though I think it was less from the food and more a stress thing (lots of hugs to Sheena). But overall I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I was just happy that they were all willing to celebrate with me! I was also shocked and pleased to find that my covenmates chipped in and got me a day at a spa- I have a menu of facials (*giggle*), manicures, pedicures, massages, and various weird and cryptically-named treatments of various sorts to choose from. I don't know what I'll get, but never having been to do this before, it should be interesting.
Then home again, where a couple of folks stayed for Adult Swim, and then I drifted off while snuggling.
Ask me a question!
"The problem with LJ is... we all think we are so close, and we don't know basic things about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you."
I'm cheating on this one; I've seen it a couple of times but I can't think of anything to ask people. Part of it is that I like to let people tell me what they want me to know so it's sort of a privacy thing; I think I internalized a 'it's rude to ask questions' lesson along the way somewhere. Anyway, I know not everyone does that and I'm pretty much an open book, though sometimes I'm an open book locked in a box at the bottom of the ocean.

My answers:
My journal is called Mielikki's Musings because it's simple, descriptive, and alliterates like a superhero's alter ego.
My subtitle is 'Solum potestis prohibere ignes silvarum' which is Latin for 'only you can prevent forest fires'. I use it for 3 reasons- it keeps the forest theme going, it's high-falutin' Latin yet it's silly. That's me, smart but silly.
My friends page is called 'Mielikki's Grove' because it still runs with that forest theme.
My username is Mielikki because she is the pleasant goddess of the forests, and I like goddesses, forests, and generally being pleasant- what's not to like? The subtitle is 'Domina mea exstat a tergo', Latin for 'Baby got back'. Again with the smart and funny.
My default userpic is some trees in a picture taken by another guy on LJ. I always try to have my main user pic be some tree picture, but they change from time to time. My first one was something I got just from doing a random Google image search. Yansa's picture was the default for the longest time. This latest one was just so beautiful and backlit and serene, it seemed quite Mielikki-y to me.
