Most importantly, happy birthday to
geoectomy, one of my friends from the great white north. How are those plans to annex Texas coming along? Can we just work on Travis county?
Speaking of, there was a guy who wrote to Tom Tomorrow (who draws 'This Modern World') who said that 'Austin is not as liberal as they would have you think.' He went on to explain how Texans have seriously told him that they plan to have their dogs hunt down all the liberals and kill them. Now, this guy is from the Bay Area, and I've never been there but yeah, I'm sure it's different here. But I think this guy is exaggerating to a point that his credibility is in question. Yeah, the non-Austin parts of Texas are pretty conservative, but anyone who believes someone who threatens to hunt liberals down with dogs and kill them (if they're being serious in the first place) is representative of Texas, thinks abortion doctor killers represent Christians and is therefore an idiot. Come on. And who is the 'they' that want everyone else to think Austin is liberal in the first place? Maybe... the liberals who live here? I've run into a few. They're not really hard to find.
I don't know why that guy's comment made me bristle. I am not one of those people who loves Texas and thinks we're better than everyone and buys things that are shaped like Texas that have no reason to be (though the kitsch factor amuses me- I wish other states would get into that too, it's funny! C'mon, Colorado, get on the ball!). I guess it was the hysterical tone that irked me.
