Today has been the day of Planning Gone Awry. First, there was gonna be a New Moon picnic-thingy that got called on account of rain and replaced with a movie. Since I had to go to rehearsal in the afternoon, I decided there wasn't time to do the movie. We were supposed to do an early hike around Town Lake with Kirby, which was also canceled due to rain and turned into a late breakfast. Then the New Moon movie got turned into lunch at Mother's. While I would definitely recommend Mother's to any health-conscious vegetarian, I am not a big fan of much of anything there except occasionally the mushroom stroganoff. Even if I was in the mood for it, the notion of eating a big handful of sour cream before choir rehearsal seems like a bad idea. And anyway, I was scheduled to do late brekkie with Kirby. Well, she wanted to go before we'd really gotten up and to East Side, a place I love but hub loathes. So, we were plan-less in Austin.
We ended up trying a new place called the Original Pancake House. The name and the cheesy logo made us both think it was some kind of Waffle House/IHOP rip-off, but it was nothing at all like either of those places. Check the menu- it's very high-quality breakfast stuff, focusing on pancakes, waffles, and crepes. The orange juice tasted like it was in an orange minutes before. The bacon was in massively thick slabs, and I was asked 'how I liked it cooked', which has never happened with bacon before. I ordered the Cherry Kijafa Crepes- basically, cherries and crepes. The crepes were big and the cherries were plentiful. Hub got the apple pancake special, which was obviously baked in an oven and was sort of like a pancake/apple pie/cinnamon roll hybrid, and he loved it. It was pricey, but excellent, quality food.
I just got back from rehearsal, and need to clean up before the concert. I think it'll be a good one (though I wish I could bolt before the encore). Woo!
