On an totally unrelated topic, I surfed over to some stranger's journal and saw something I'd never run across before- a request that people not use LJ-cuts and equated it with somehow being ashamed of what you're saying. Now, I can see that, but I've also seen people get pretty frustrated with really long posts and request LJ-cuts. Honestly, I don't give a rat's ass either way; I can be polite, but I also like to see my own writing. It don't make no never-mind to me. So, since I'm curious, which do you prefer?

I'm writing my lj for me, but it seems rather arrogant to assume that *everyone* who reads me is fascinated to the smallest detail by the trivia of my life, and it kind of irks me when other people do make that assumption. If its more than 2 screenfuls, or has lots of large pics, I cut and appreciate cuts in return. Then again, maybe still being on dial-up makes me more aware of how long the *really* long photo-intense posts can take.

The easy solution is to have a preference set.

One that forcibly cuts any entry beyond a certain limit.

And one that ignores any cuts.

Problem solved and it can be accomplished with minimal coding.

The only time I really want cuts is in the case of bloody pictures and porn. The first because I'm squeamish and the second because sometimes I read LJ in places where that would get me in trouble or just be extra embarassing.

Sometimes I cut posts because I don't want other people to snark about the content, but really I'd rather others didn't cut.

Oh and quiz results! I don't mind seeing them cut unless they're quizzes yansa made or just special somehow.

I think every individual should choose to cut or not, and people shouldn't hassle them about it or make demands that their "friends" follow their paticular preference. Cut or not I say! It doesn't bother me one way or another.
