Mielikki ain't feeling so hot, folks.

First, I have a sore throat, and not the drippy allergy kind, but the gummy cold kind. I know several people who've come down with colds recently, so it was probably going to catch me eventually.

Second, I haven't really had much of a break lately... all my recent vacation activity has been to do things that were a lot more like work than fun, and have often had very high stress to accompany them. It's all been stuff that needs doing, but the fact remains that I haven't gotten to really have any real vacation for awhile, unless you count the hysterectomy. And even though it's been three months since the surgery, I still don't think my energy level has quite bounced back completely- in other words, it doesn't take as long for me to scrape the bottom, and I'm pretty much there now.

Not to paste you with a litany of complaints- but I know when I need a break and when I have to stop and recharge in some way. So, I have the leave to call in sick, and I'm taking it. Plus, we (hub and I) may be going to spend a couple of days away soon. I don't know why I feel defensive about it; I've had the word 'slacker' tossed my way in what occasionally comes off as a less-than-flattering manner, equivalent to 'lazy.'

I don't think I ever mentioned it here, but I was talking to River, one of my Elders and a lady who I respect very much. She is always over-booked, always busting her ass, always busy. I finally asked her recently if she thought I was lazy, and she said "No! I have never thought you were lazy at all, in fact I always admired you for knowing how to take care of yourself." It was nice to hear.

*internal check* Yeah, I still feel defensive about it. Damn you, John Calvin! You evil bastard! *shakes fist*

I'll work on it.

Choir was great last night. MIL was there, and we went all the way through some songs as opposed to just singing the same 6 measures a thousand times. I may write that up in more detail later; I have a whole screed in my head about why you should never end a musical phrase with the word 'it.'

I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Let me know if you need anything. I am carless at the moment but I can at least send happy thoughts your way. (((hug)))

Also, you so SO not lazy. I agree with River. You just know how to take care of your needs. I just watched Defending Your Life and I feel the need to remind you about when Albert Brooks's defender said something like, "You know one person I wish you had been more generous with? You."

Get well soon, sweetie.

>"You know one person I wish you had been more generous with? You."

Great quote.

I hope you get feeling better soon. I've been sniffly and coughy myself recently. It's no fun.

Must sleep a few hours, then write a speech to give tonight at my public speaking class. Weee..

Hooray for burning man, the easiest speech topic Evar.

I agree that you shouldn't ever feel bad about taking care of yourself. I think that my life would be better if my house were more like the house of mellow and a little less like the house of OCD.

Feel better. *hugs*

See? You *rock*! :D

I hope you're feeling better soon, Mielikki... *more big hugs*
