The kitten is bathed. People may have thought I was scared of injury when I asked for prayers last night, but it was more an emotional plea. When the vet said we were going to have to bathe and dip her, I asked a vet tech to give me a quick lesson in how it's done. He demonstrated 'scruffing' her, which is to say picking her up by the scruff of her neck so that she basically stops moving and you can sling her around like a sack of grain. I don't know why that sort of creeps me out but it does, and I was ready to do it if I had to. In any event, I just made sure the tub had a little water in it so I wasn't running it near her (vet said the loud faucet freaks them out more than anything else) and just got in there with her nekkid. I poured warm water on her with a cup and then massaged shampoo all over her for 10 minutes. She didn't fight or struggle, but her eyes did get really big.

After a very, very long 10 minutes, I used the cup to rinse it off. Then I took the pre-made mix of warm dip solution and just poured that on her. By this point she was feebly trying to figure out a way to escape (this is a tub with a glass door on it) and started yeowling in the most heart-breaking 'why is this happening to me?' sort of way. Thankfully I was mostly done by then. The stuff did smell funky but it wasn't too bad. I rinsed out the tub (it stains) and let the kitten out. Then I grabbed towels and tried to dry her off as best as I could. She was trembling- not sure if it was from fear or from being cold. So I sat with her and made her into a little kitty burrito and massaged her with the towel until she stopped shaking and was dry enough not to stain whatever she plopped down on.

She ran off and I think went to sit on top of hub's monitor, probably for warmth. But she was back to her purry untraumatized self fairly quickly. This is a happy thing, because traumatizing kittens is really not my idea of fun. Despite dire warnings nothing is stained and kitten once again smells faintly of matches or fireworks- strange, but not unpleasant.

Plans for today- get ready for class, and finish unpacking to get space ready for ritual tomorrow night.
