At long last, I've managed to test all the samples from Black Phoenix. I wrote and asked why they didn't send me Lust, and they apologized and sent it plus 2 other scents. So overall, I had 20 samples (they were really generous with the freebies). I went to Natural Magic yesterday while I was hanging near the vet's waiting for Tif to dry off, and they had spray bottles, which I was looking to buy online. This is nice, and the lady was even helpful and told me how I can make the oils into a spray perfume (which is my preference) by adding equal parts everclear and water to the sample. She had 2 oz. bottles, and the samples are 1/32 oz. so I may start with mixing them up 1/2 or 1 oz. and seeing how strong they are. I got 4 bottles, so I can pick 4 samples. Not sure what I'll go with...

BLACK FOREST
This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.
pine, pine, pine! lightens up after a bit to a powdery scent (still piney), soapy... Fades quickly.
MASQUERADE*
A festive, dazzling blend, layered in mystery and intrigue. Patchouli, ambergris, carnation and orange blossom.
musky floral- smells like a new age shop. Pleasant. Incense. Celebrations in 1991.
OMEN
Deep, mysterious, and full of dark portents: oakmoss, juniper berry, myrrh and patchouli.
woodsy, headshop scent.
Later: faint- almost gone
XIUHTECUHTLI
Patron of the Aztec pantheon, he is the personification of light within darkness, warmth in the cold, and life in, and after, death. He is a creative and destructive God of Fire and Light, and is appeased only by sacrifice, trial, and the slaughter of his people's enemies. Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms.
fruity and flowery with a bit of perfume (by which I mean, not an essential oil smell but a smell like a bottle of some popular perfume that men get their wives for Valentine's day)
fades to a definite perfume scent; somehow reminds me of 1985-86
UNDERTOW
The Dark Side of Water: clean and purifying, yet menacing -- lotus and juniper with a hint of mint. A scent dragged up from the depths to the Stygian shore.
dusty mint with a little fruity note (apple)
greenish-blue, cool
GREED*
Base and earthy, yet glittering with golden notes: patchouli, heliotrope, copal and oakmoss.
money! poppy seed, sweet, more Play-Doh
Later: powdery, nice
VIXEN
Lascivious, flirtatious, and vampy as hell. A true heartbreaker’s perfume. The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli.
really sweet, candy-like, yuck! Too sweet.
Later- still way too sweet, nasty
FENRIS WOLF
The raw, untamable power of chaos. Rosewood, amber, red musk and a dribble of red sandalwood.
wood scent, old maps and globes
Later: slightly sweet, pleasant, like a library
TYPHON*
A fearsome creature from Greek lore. Typhon was born from the marriage of Earth and Hell, and is said to be so terrible in aspect that even the gods themselves flee from his venomous gaze. Our own blend of Earth and Hell: red patchouli, sandalwood, black musk and vetiver.
Mmmm! Spicy! Sandalwood incense
Later: patchouli; Devonshire incense (like how the whole factory smells, all the incense scents mixed together- grab one of their combo bundles and smell that- that's what I'm talking about)
OBERON
Orchid, white musk, and bergamot wafting over juniper berries, with a gentle touch of soft, earthy patchouli.
powdery, perfume- White Shoulders?
Later: more powdery; grandma's perfume powder puff
SCORPIO*
[not described on the website, but the reviewers said it had a spicy, earthy almost smoky scent.]
the oil that lady made for me at CMA that one time! (a woman made custom blends based on your sign and personality); fruity
KWEKU ANANSI
I'll spare you one of my Anasi tales. icon_wink.gif Besides, I haven't decided which one to use on His scent description! Vetiver, dusty pepper, nutmeg, thyme and grass over a deep, mossy wooden core. [lagniappe]
clear, rose (?) with a woody note
MOON ROSE
A crisp, pale, almost translucent rose dusted by moonflower and midnight dew. [lagniappe]
very rosey, but with a clean, soapy scent
Later: clean roses
THE RED QUEEN
Deep mahogany and rich, velvety woods lacquered with sweet, black-red cherries and currant. [lagniappe]
cherry candy, too sweet, fading to cherry cough syrup.
Later: still syrupy, yuck
VOODOO
A midnight scent, evoking images of flickering golden firelight reflecting off the sheen of glistening skin and the jerking shadows of bodies suffused with spiritual ecstasy. A deep, powerful, resonant blend of myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove. [lagniappe]
Taurus oil (a blend I got from a local shop here years ago), poppy seed, sweet, Play-Doh
Later: dusty, baby powder but okay
ZEPHYR
A gentle white scent, breezes laced with the scent of springtime blooms and citrus. Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla. [lagniappe]
baby powder- something from my childhood... sweet and flowery, young, girly- my first perfume
Later: powdery, light musk, still perfumy
ZOMBI
Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth. [lagniappe]
dusty attic, old library, grandmothers and science museums, roses
Later: old leather
LUST*
Uncontrollable passion and insatiable sexual desire: red musk, patchouli, ylang ylang and myrrh.
incense from when I first got into Wicca, sweet and smoky- spicy; head shop
Later: sweet (myrrh) and earthy
TINTAGEL
According to legend, the birthplace of King Arthur. The scent of a castle's great hall in the midst of joyous feasting. Spicy mulled wine flowing through the musky heat, warm leather and bright clash of armor, the damp branches of Cornish hawthorn, blackthorn, juniper, English elm and bayberry, and the magical tingle of dragon's blood resin. [lagniappe]
cinnamon, spice, clove and pine- Christmas
Later: very faint, spicy
EMPYREAL MIST
A hazy, soft, veiled scent: mist floating through twilit skies, curling gently towards the heavens. [lagniappe]
fruity and floral, but not too sweet- fades fast to a flowery scent
