I'm in a weird cereal/kolache/donut mood. Maybe I need some of John Cleese's corn flake recipe. I tried calling Kirby's Donut 7 but they are closed on Sundays. I'm sure it's just as well.
After D&D Friday the girl who had offered to stencil that t-shirt pinged me and told me it was ready, and that I could pick it up then if I wanted to. Since I was feeling awake I asked Brenda "do you want to go on an adventure?" since I know she is a night owl too, and she said sure. This was around 11:30 or so. So we left and headed down Parmer- the place wasn't far. Right around Lamplight Village, I was in the left lane and I saw bright lights ahead of me, and hub and Brenda yelled, and I slammed on my brakes. It seemed that some car decided it was a good idea to go the wrong way down Parmer, and smashed head-on into a pickup truck in the lane right next to me. It's a miracle someone didn't try to go into my lane and smash into me. I stopped, and a couple of other people stopped. They ran out to make sure everyone was okay and Brenda whipped out her cell phone and called 911. There was smoke and smushed leaky cars, but air bags had deployed and everyone was conscious and apparently uninjured. We waited and within maybe 5 minutes a fire truck pulled up. They checked on everyone and started cleaning up the car blood and bits with sand and brooms. A couple of police cars arrived, then an ambulance drove up. As the ambulance guys were jumping out, one of the cops waved them off, and laughing and smiling, the ambulance guys leaped back into the ambulance and drove off. At first I was amused by the 'Hooray, I don't have to work!' vibe they'd put out, but it occurred to me that it really was great that they didn't have to work. The police got my name, asked me what happened, and then told me I could clear out of there, which I was happy to do.
I picked up my shirt. It looks excellent. If anyone's interested I could post a photo; either way if you want a one-shot design painted onto a t-shirt,
lifeless_tears is your girl.
Brenda said she didn't want to go on any more adventures with me. Crap, neither do I.
Yesterday we decided to head to Barton Creek Square mall in the south part of town. Suncoast said they had the new Sealab 2021 dvd for $20 and they'd hold a copy for us. Since Fry's didn't even have them in stock and was probably going to sell them for $30, this seemed like a deal. Hub also had a chance to check out the new Apple store, and we went to visit Brö afterwards since we were on his end of town.
The mall was pretty packed, and just walking through the parking lot almost wore me out. We got our dvd (plus season 2 of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, also on sale for $20) and checked out the Apple store, which was all Appley I guess. Hub saw many things to drool upon. Then we moseyed over to a Radio Shack and looked at the Sirius satellite radio set-up. Gordon's had it, and I've been getting increasingly sick of the commercials on regular radio. What made me want to look into it now was the fact that I have a couple of long road trips planned, and also we'd heard that they have made it so you can bring the unit into your home and listen to it there too. So it turns out you buy the base unit for $100, which is completely useless by itself- they didn't even put a headphone jack on it. Then you buy a car kit for $50, or a home kit for $50 (or both, or a boom-box set-up for $100). Then it's about $70 to get it installed, $15 to activate it and $13 a month. There are a few ways to cut corners but it's still a pretty big start-up cost for something I really don't need at all. I grabbed a brochure and we took off for Brö's.
He was off getting a haircut, but Tom was there and he and hub started poking around on computers and chatting about games. I stretched out on their couch and fell asleep for about an hour until Brö got home which seemed weird; I don't usually fall asleep in a room full of people on someone else's couch but I really needed the nap- I felt a whole lot better after. We played several games, watched a lot of our dvd's and some movies and generally hung out until late last night- getting home around 2. I'm happy to say I was not the big loser- I won a game of Chez Geek and Cosmic Encounter. Even though Tom obviously threw the game in Cosmic Encounter (a game I later learned has been around almost as long as I have) I still had to work for my Chez Geek win. I had fun.
We are going to hub's mom's place for lunch/dinner. First I'm gonna drop off my medical statement at work. My return date is set at August 8th, a little over a month after the surgery. I had thought of going back part-time before then, but honestly I'm really enjoying my time off, so I'll probably go ahead and wait. I'm catching up on a lot of stuff and I'll take the gamble that 10-20 hours won't make much of a difference in my lifelong extended sick leave balance. I'm still feeling pretty easily pooped, but I can definitely tell that things are improving.
