Went to the doctorb today- I got a 3pm appointment. He used to be a stodgy old stick in the mud but he seems to have gotten a lot more laid back lately. He'd forgotten that I had called him at home on Thanksgiving; so he sees all the recent UTIs I've been dealing with, and we bat ideas back and forth as to what might be going on. He finally leans back in his chair and says "You're going to make me send you to a urologist; you don't want that. They will put you through all sorts of unpleasant procedures like ramming a scope up your urethra [!]. So we're gonna treat this infection, and then you're not going to get any more. Then you're going to drink water like a fiend, and make sure you pee after you have sex every single time, even if it's 2am. And I'll prescribe you a pill that you take every time you have sex [?]. Don't ask me if you have sex three times if you should take 3 pills; just take one. In a week we'll do a UA and make sure this thing is cleared up."
He explained that the after-sex pill was an antibiotic- Macrobid, if you're wondering. We had just discussed my concerns about the treating antibiotic- Cipro, of all things. I had heard that some lady who worked at the Post Office was forced to take Cipro for months and how hard it was on her system. He'd said "well, if you take any antibiotic for months it'll tear you up." So I think my next question was reasonable. As we were walking out, I asked him "so if I was taking it every day, that wouldn't be bad?" He just turned around, gave me this look, and said "well, aren't you lucky?" then said yeah, it would be fine.
I got back to work around 5 and have been reading all the weird side-effects these drugs have. The Cipro makes me sensitive to sunlight, so I'm not supposed to spend any time outside without sunscreen. I'm also not supposed to take it with any dairy. The Macrobid 'may change the color of your urine or feces'. Great. No scheisse videos for this German chick. It also says it makes you drowsy, and to take it with food or milk. Flarn!
