We both woke up feeling somewhat unrested and grumpy. I was leaning towards 'pack up and bolt' but we decided to wander up to the main stage and hang out for awhile. Lots of really interesting conversation was had as we nibbled on breakfast things, and hub got into a Scrabble game with Content while someone showed me how to write my name in Mayan glyphs. The music on tap was weird and beautiful, some sort of trancy Mid-East sounding stuff. The vibe was relaxed, yet engaging. This is something I've never experienced at either Flipside or CMA, and was pretty typical of the whole event.
It had to end eventually; by 2pm or so we were thinking it was maybe time to start packing up. We got everything in the car literally minutes before a cloudburst broke out and dumped rain, so I didn't really have a chance to say any farewells since most people were headed for cover or packing up themselves.
As we drove home, I saw hawks and buzzards flying overhead, and a wild turkey crossing the road- I'd never seen a live wild turkey that close up! Plus deer, squirrels, and all sorts of Hill Country wildlife- it was like the Io Pan drive-through zoo or something.
We got home and unloaded the car, and went for pizza. We had the place to ourselves (not surprised that Double Dave's buffet is not a hot spot for Mother's Day) and they even let us take pizza home. Kirby popped in for a bit and soaked up some mellow, and Bob was around for Adult Swim needing some time to relax as well. It was really nice to go to a camp-out that wasn't either rife with politics or crazy with party-animals- which is fine if that was what you're in the mood for, but we really wanted a low-key event and this fit the bill. I will definitely plan to go next year too. It allowed us to charge up the House of Mellow, our own personal temple of de-stressing that we try to cultivate in our home.
