I head for Atlanta tomorrow for the second 'pope and cardinals' meeting of the Trad. I'm nervous but hopeful. We're trying to get incorporated as a religious organization, which means getting a lot of stuff codified that wasn't. I've been on the By-Laws committee. I don't know why I offered, I don't know crap about by-laws, how to write 'em or even how to read the scary things- and neither did anyone else really. I had to recruit Gordon at the last second and he wrote a whole big bloody 11-page set of them- I was in awe. Presenting that to the group, I felt like a caveman giving the group an astrolabe and going 'look how shiny!' I'm also nervous because our beloved leader has been really ill. Ellen and I have a plan to get a hotel room if she looks at all tired from having all of us there.

In the meantime, I took Homer in for his yearly tune-up. Gailon said there was nothing that needed to be done, but to gird my loins for the 90k overhaul in about 8000 miles, which involves replacing timing belts and oil seals and such and will run about a thousand bucks or so. But, he says that most cars need that at 60k, and after it's done we probably won't have to worry about doing it again for another 90k. Happy! I have to say, it's been a year and I really have nothing to complain about with that car. It's the best evar. 1997 Honda Odyssey- you numbah one!

I've also been trying to get the pool in shape before I go. It's live oak pollen and tiny green caterpillar season, the most disgusting of the pool seasons. Oak catkins sink to the bottom where they collect in piles of brown sludge, and the 'pillars are dropping out of the lovely overhanging trees and drowning. So when I get the pool bot running, I have to clear it out frequently of brown sludge combined with 'pillar carcasses by the scores. Ecch.

The little green caterpillars that drop down on silk threads? Gross.

The very same. The bug lady at Wild Basin said the biologists called them 'bird snacks' because they hang in the air and birds just swoop by and eat 'em. I wish the birds'd get more of them before they drowned in the pool. :P
