This is definitely the season for our mountain laurels. I found out that they aren't really mountain laurels, but are Texas mountain laurels (Sophora secundiflora), also called mescal bean sophora (wise mescal bean?), a member of the pea family.

Mom showed up late (she'd gotten lost; *frown*) and we were able to get her hearing aids from the place in San Marcos without much trouble. The rain was tough on traffic, as was the bazillion cars that were crowding the roads, possibly for the SXSW thing. But she got off by 3, and was home before dark. That left us to play a rousing evening of D&D. Woo!

Saturday was a wedding, and then a bunch of slacking. I hope to have Brenda make me a robe; sometime soon we plan to go fabric shopping. We went looking for patterns but didn't find much- she thinks she can slap one together because I don't really want anything very complicated. The evening was spent watching Angel episodes (I'm liking) and otherwise taking it easy.

I'm still searching for camping possibilities. Gordon has told me about Banned Camp, the guys who were briefly kicked out of CMA but their camp-out is between Georgia trip and Arizona trip. I think I'll prefer to have a week off rather than try to go camping in there. [livejournal.com profile] scorpionis has mentioned Io Pan Jam, which is the weekend of our Beltane. I can try to reschedule Beltane and had already asked for that Sunday off- I just need to find more info about IPJ. Of course I dig the name, but things like cost, how many attendees and what I would be expected to do (if anything) are things I need to find out. It's an OTO camp-out, so I expect it will have a different vibe than a pagan one or a Burner one. Possibly quieter and less 'huggy' which would probably be good for hub, who is not as thrilled about having his personal space invaded by random strangers as some. And I bet they don't have 72 straight hours of techno music, either! More news as I discover it.

I went to IPJ last year for the first time, and I'm not OTO. It was probably a bit less huggy and more conversational, but otherwise was pretty much your pagan hanging-out campout. Except there was a spanking tent. :) All in all, I was glad I went.

Conversational? Spanky? That sounds just about perfect. Do you remember if there was a work requirement, or how much it cost?

I don't think I remember a work requirement, at least for non-OTO folk, but being smaller and much less organized, even if there was one, it'd be pretty damned minor. I think it was $30?

Cool- thanks. :)

Hmmm...a spanking tent and less random strangers wanting to hug you. Where do I sign up?

Now, if it just wasn't camping at all... :)

Aww, it'll be fun... I'd say we could have 'recluse camp' but you're in danger of getting your card revoked, missy! Anyway, Ellen's planning to go to so please do consider it!

A recluse camp sounds fun. Just because I have found one person that I like a lot does not mean that I am more fond of people in general.

Right, miss I have my social calendar booked solid 3 weeks in advance. :D So, you'll think about it? I've pretty much got Eric convinced, and I have that Sunday off already. Yay! Will you camp in your truck? Should we bring spanking implements? Man, I wish I was not at work today!

I don't know yet how much IPJ is going to be, although historically it's been anywhere between $35-$55 depending on how early one registers. Given that planning is pretty slow this year I'm willing to bet that they'll be generous in how early one can buy a ticket. I'll probably post about it when I hear more information, but I have no idea when that will be.

Excellent- I'll keep an eye out. I'm looking forward to this; it seems like it will be a great camping opportunity- just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the info! :)
